A total of 13 Invicta members featured in the Deal 5 Mile where both our Women and Men took individual silver and team bronze

While the Men's combined total time of four scoring racers was some 7 mins behind Deal Tri's silver, it almost exactly 6 minutes faster than Canterbury Harriers' quartet. Our Women's combined total (three-to-score) was less than a minute behind Deal Tri and a comfortable 5 mins ahead of Folkestone.

In the Men's race, u-20 newcomer to the club Rob Jackson reproduced the form that has seen him unbeaten in this season's u-20 Kent XC league as he crossed line in 26mins 37secs, only half a minute behind Folkestone's John Creane, the pre-race favourite. Rob lead a very mixed Invicta age-group squad to team bronze : fellow u-20 Nick Little (31:17) was 22nd Man to finish and the medal winning quartet was completed by two vintage performers. Evergreen Vet-60 Michael Conway (32:48) ran a stormer for 35th male just ahead of a Canterbury Harrier and Vet-50 John Batty was 52nd male to finish in 34:16.

Junior runner Chris Little (28:53) made 122nd in his first ever road run at this distance, while in a blanket finish of 6 runners, only 8 seconds separated Michael Desborough (Vet-50) and Brian Wood who made vet-60 in July : Michael recorded 39:21 after putting in a magnificent last 50m to hold off a challenge of two younger men on a sprint to the line, while Brian was only 8 seconds adrift in 39:29. Next in was Richard Hudson (41:01) who has competed at all distances on the track this summer and is now looking to break the 40 minutes for this road distance.

Our ladies team came 3rd, led by Heidi Coleman (31:19) who was second individual, 1min 20 behind training partner Helena Penfold who competes for Medway Maidstone. Second Invicta female to finish was Veteran Liz Batty who is gradually getting back in shape - Liz was 10th female home in 36:17 - and Rachel Wood (43:51) completed the red team with a fine run as she held off the challenge of an athlete from Swanscombe Strollers.

Three IEK members featured in the junior 1,000m race which was won comfortably by our u-15 track 800m champion Sam Hudson in 3mins 14, while 10 year-old Elodie Tweedie was 6th female in 4:15 and 9 year-old Jessica Merryweather was 22nd female on a creditable 5:05.
