Chris Chancellor obliterates 1987 record for 400m

While our Senior men and Women have new 400m champions in Tom Purnell and Sarah Bonnage, and Jason Prickett scorched round in 51.9 for the u-20 title, it was the u17s in particular who stole the show. Rebecca Weston stylishly posted a Grade 1 time to become the new u-17 female 400m club champion when holding off the strong challenge of training partner Emily Hosker Thornhill whose 62.4 was itself a grade 3. However, the undoubted talking point of this successful Open meeting (which attracted 40[img:438l] more competitors than did last month's Open) is Chris Chancellor's scintillating first ever 400m run. The depth of talent among our u-17 Men required two heats, with the final to be contested later in the season - Chris Chancellor installed himself as firm favourite for the title when recording a breathtaking Grade 1 time of 51.0 to win heat 1 in his first ever race longer than 200m. Chris also slashed almost a second off Kieron Mansfield's 22 year-old u-17 record. In Chris's wake, Kieran Reilly and Sam Hudson posted pb times to reach the final - Alex Tuck held off both Jacob AND Ben Burton to win heat 2 by a narrow margin. Jake Rogers and Annabel Carter are crowned u-15 club champions at 400m, and Sue Rogers and Tim Kerr are our vet champions over one lap. Elsewhere, Chris Thomas looked strong when winning a quick 800m, Callum Barling Jeffery won the shot and the high jump, and Dominic Owen's winning Discus throw was an u-15 grade 3. Visitors from other clubs recorded impressive grade 2 in the verticle jumps - u-20 Emmeline Rendell (Ashford) at pole vault and u-13 Lewis Church (Sevenoaks AC) cleared 1.40m in the high jump.
