Anna Weston goes 5th on IEK All-time u-15 ranking

Two 1500m events were presented at Sutcliffe Park - one a BMC Race and the other a Cambridge Harriers' Open.  Wisely, both organisers got together and merged their own relatively small fields into two competitive races - 7 runners including Senior Men capable of breaking 3mins 50 went in Race 1, the remaining 15 runners all went together in Race 2

Unaware of the pedigree of her rivals, Anna Weston (best of 4mins 54) went with the early pace, heading the likes of Elaine Murty who has regularly run sub 4mins 30 for the last 3-4 seasons. Once the big guns took off, Anna was left racing an u-17 Cambridge Harrier and in an exciting sprint for the line pushed her older rival to within 3 tenths of a second, which resulted in both posting a personal best.

Anna's five second pb of 4:49.08 came as a result of her racing a rival, and not worrying about individual lap times – good honest racing! It puts Anna 22nd in this year's Power-of-10 UK rankings for 1500m as well as putting her 5th on IEK's All-time u15 ranking for 1500m, ahead of Alex Clay (12th with 5:06.0) and also of English Schools 1500 competitors Diana Jeffery (1997) Marika Hayward (1997) and Charlotte Dale in 1999
