Early Season Multi-Event Promise

Holly Fielder and Emily Higham continued their early season athletics preparations by guesting in the Hampshire (U15) Multi Events Champs on the Bank Holiday Monday in Portsmouth. It was a very long day with the first event (the long jump) starting at 9.15am and the final event (the 800m) not starting until gone 4.30pm.

Hampshire is also one of the strongest Multi Events Counties, so the competition was expected to be of a high standard.

In their first outdoor Pentathlon of the season Holly finished third in the competition with a new Pentathlon personal best of 2553 points. She started the day with solid performances in the long jump with 4.68m (474 points) and 75mH with 13.9s (489 points). She then set a Pentathlon personal best in the shot of 7.61m (374 points) and then equalled her high jump personal best with 1.39m (502 points). In the final event she then set a new personal best in the 800m of 2mins 28.3secs (714 points), although that was only the third fastest time of the day (the event being won in just over 2mins 24secs).

Emily finished 10th overall in her first outdoor Pentathlon at this age group with a score of 2004 points. She started with a solid long jump of 4.00m (308 points) and then followed this up with a personal best in the 70mH with 14.7s (422 points). After a shot of 7.39m (360 points) Emily then set the equal highest height in the high jump with 1.42m (534 points). She then completed the final event, the 800m, in 2mins 58.4secs (380 points).

All in all it was a very good start for both girls in what was only their fourth competition of the season.
