Holly's slow start spurs her on

Holly Fielder was Invicta’s only representative at the recent South of England Multi Events Champs in Bedford. In fact she was the only athlete who competed in the U15 Girls Pentathlon from Kent.

On a very hot, humid and airless day Holly started slowly for her, jumping a modest 4.64m in the long jump (464 points). This then seemed to make her more determined as she set about trying to make up for the lost points in the other events. She did a season’s best in the 75mH of 12.95secs (573 points), which was then followed up with a personal best in the shot of 8.95m (461 points and a National Grade 3 Standard). In the high jump she then did another personal best clearing 1.44m (555 points). In the final event, the 800m, she then ran the fastest time of the competition by some 4 seconds. She crossed the line in 2mins 26.6secs (736 points), which was just 0.8secs outside her new personal best.

Her final score of 2789 points (a National Grade 1 Standard) was just 7 points below of her recently set personal best and put her in fourth place, just outside the medals.

Holly’s attention is now focussed towards her final Pentathlon of the season, the English Schools Multi Event Champs on 21 September.
