SCVAC Kent League Dartford

And for the final fixture of this season we expanded from the “3/4 musketeers” to the “magnificent 7” (starring David Glendower and John Gilbert as the Yul Brynner lookalikes)!! Considering that in nearly all the events our men were competing in younger age groups we did exceptionally well.

A typical example was Martin Kelk (M45) who in the M35 category “A” string came 4th in the 100m-(14.1) and 3rd in the 800m- (2-22.3) as well as running in the medley relay where our team placed 3rd- (4-35.9).Likewise, Gavin Knight (M55) contested the M35 “B” 100m and finished 4th-(14.4) before joining the medley relay squad.

Ian Tomlinson (M55) placed 2nd in the M50 100m-(14.4) and won the same age group LJ with a very impressive leap-(5-16)before also completing a leg in the relay. David Glendower (M45) did well to place 2nd in the M35 Dis-(21-77) and John Gilbert (M70) managed 2nd in the M50 Dis-(22-34) and 4th in the M60 LJ-(2-69).

Richard Hudson (M55) had every reason to be pleased with his 5th place in the “B” M35 800m- (2-27.0). Rob Whittaker (M50) again demonstrated his class by winning his age group 800m-(2-27.0) and then made up the 4th member of our relay team (who had the distinction of having the oldest aggregate age of the 5 competing teams-and that was even without John Gilbert!!).

We finished 3rd in our division where the top 2 are promoted. Had we gained promotion there is little doubt that we would have struggled in the higher division unless we consistently had full turn-outs for all matches. So perhaps the outcome is not too disappointing. Thanks to everyone who supported the team during the season, particularly all the club members who helped at our home fixture. Next season will soon roll around and I will again enter both a men's and women's team in the hope that some of our women will want the enjoyable, friendly competition that this league provides.

Yours in Sport
