Record Numbers Take Part in the Parker Tools Canterbury 10

The 2016 Parker Tools Canterbury 10mile Road Race was held on Sunday 24th January with a record number of participants. There were over 1300 entrants and nearly 1200 finishers, an increase of nearly 50% on the 2015 race. This annual event sponsored for the first time by Parker Tools had a new base at Barton Court Grammar School, which was very busy with the increased number of participants. The event also supported the Pilgrims Hospice for the first time and a donation of £ 1,500.00 was made to this respected local charity.

It was a mild morning and a large number of supporters turned out to line the picturesque route that was run on quiet lanes to the South of the city.
The race itself resulted in a resounding victory for Invicta East Kent’s Abel Tsegay who crossed the finishing line in an excellent 51m 36 sec, nearly half a minute faster than his winning time in 2015. He was followed home by Christopher Greenwood from Kent AC in 52min 58sec and Stephan Wenk of Maidstone Harriers in 54min 13 sec.
The first finisher in a keenly fought ladies event was Maria Heslop of Paddock Wood AC in a time of 62min 33sec from Liz Weeks of Sittingbourne Striders in 63min 35sec and Tina Oldershaw also of Paddock Wood AC in 3rd Place in 64min 17sec.
