Pilgrims Hospices Light Up The City

Make space in your diary for this year’s Light up the City event on Saturday 22 October.

 

As always, the emphasis is on fun, fancy dress and fundraising with a family-friendly element to our 3k dusk stroll followed later by the 5k run. Both routes will take in the magical sights of Canterbury all lit up.

 

New for Walkers in 2016: This year’s walk will be a Lantern Walk with paper lanterns included for every early bird walker. They can be personalised to remember someone special or just decorated to stand out. Lanterns will be carried through the Precincts of Canterbury Cathedral and placed on Greencourt in front of the beautiful Deanery building.

 

The event starts and finishes in Dane John Gardens with registration check in from 5.45pm for the stroll with a start time of 6.30pm and registration check in for the 5k run from 6.45pm with a later start time of 7.45pm.

 

Bring a torch, head torch, light sabre or fairy lights and wear your most reflective and brightest gear, although there will be plenty of our signature flashing merchandise to buy in the form of light up wigs, crazy hair, rings & necklaces. There will be lanterns and LED lights to buy on the night too.

 

Bring some cash to buy some refreshments and a mobile phone to text a donation to Pilgrims Hospices after you’ve taken a "Light up Selfie" using our customised photo frame.

 

Early bird entry fee for the 5k run is £10.00 with an additional £5.00 supplement for on the night registrations.

 

The 3k lantern walk is £7.50 for every participant in advance including a lantern, with a family ticket for two adults and two children at £25 to include two lanterns. The entry fee for registration on the night is £10.00 per person with lanterns available to buy at £2.50 each. Under 5’s and dogs go free but lanterns are not included! There's a medal for everyone and prizes for the best fancy dress including your dog! 

 

Our professional photographers from http://www.jodihanaganphotography.com/ will be busy taking pictures on the night that you can buy on line in exchange for a donation to Pilgrims.

Light up the City is an established and important fundraising event in the Pilgrims calendar and through your past participation and the generosity of your sponsors, we have managed to raise nearly £85,000 from this event since 2011. We care for over 2300 patients and their families annually throughout east Kent but need to raise £11 million in order to do this. By taking part in Light up the City not only will you experience a great evening but you are also making a difference to someone in need of our support and care.
