SUPER REDS CLINCH KENT GOLD IN FOLKESTONE HALF MARATHON

In a totally awesome display of road running, Invicta`s senior men clinched half marathon gold at the Folkestone Half Marathon, which counted for both Kent Grandprix and Kent Championships. Such was the dominance of the team on the day, the first 4 IEK finishers were all senior men and, even though 3-count for the Kent Championships, our 4th place runner would still have clinched team gold! Damien Vadgama and Mark Wilkins finished 2nd and 3rd overall and Tom Purnell set a new PB, finishing just ahead of our 4th senior Michael Gore. Once again our M60s were in great form, Trevor Edgley dominated and took gold, Michael Conway the bronze. Vicky Talbot-Rosner scooped silver in the W45s age group and special mention for Stacey McKelvie another of our new senior women : without any training for this event, Stacey's stunning debut was sub 1hr40! RESULTS OF INVICTA ATHLETES: 2nd Damien Vadgama (SM) 1:15.29 3rd Mark Wilkins (SM) 1:15.45 24th Tom Purnell (SM) 1:25.24 35th Michael Gore (SM) 1:26.42 41st John Wilkins (M50) 1:27.34 46th Trevor Edgley (M60) 1:28.20 69th Nick Little (U20M) 1:32.14 90th Tim Sutton (M40) 1:35.31 115th Vicky Talbot-Rosner (W45) 1:38.03 123rd Michael Conway (M60) 1:38.42 132nd Stacey McKelvie (SW) 1:39.27 244th Tim Kerr (M40) 1:50.14 280th Sue Cooper (W45) 1:52.40 387th Tony Piersall (M60) 2:03.46

Update 1

The offical result of the Kent Championship Half Marathon has to be confirmed by race organisers etc, then made public..... Some fantastic individual performances and plenty of trophies and medals going Invicta`s way, more of the same in future races please! In addition to the medallists already mentioned, IEK's Senior Men cleaned up the top two medals - Damien Vadgama (gold) and Mark Wilkins won silver.

Update 2

With one round of this year’s KGP remaining, team standings are looking quite stable at the top. After the brilliant display at Folkestone, IEK are 2nd in the Men's standings, pretty much secure, barring a disaster at Wilmington! Tunbridge Wells are top with Larkfield AC third. Maidstone Harriers are pretty much home and dry at the top, in the Women’s championship - IEK women are in a solid 4th place and should hold this place with a half decent turn out in the final round, the Wilmington 10K. Senior Men: Tom Purnell is still our best placed senior currently 6th overall, Mark Wilkins is 9th, but when the dropped scores kick in, he will be placed currently 2nd overall. Third IEK senior man is Michael Gore in 43rd. M40s - Tim Sutton leads our clubs challenge here, 7th overall with Peter Bowell 71st. M50s - John Wilkins is 5th with Adam Cowper-Smith 11th. M60s - by far our strongest male age group - Trevor Edgley is top, Michael Conway is 3rd with Martyn Rouse 6th. Trevor is also 10th overall male. Senior Women: Brianna Zoll (42nd) is still our best woman, Stacey McKelvie is 96th, but if she races Wilmington will leap up the leaderboard. This still is a building year for our Senior Women, next year looks a far more competitive season in prospect! W45s - by far our strongest female age group - Vicky Talbot Rosner is 2nd with Sue Cooper 5th, Janice Moorekite (8th) is our 3rd lady. The last race of 2009 is the Wilmington 10K - our teams are pretty much secure, but a reasonable turn out is desired from me! And I would really like to encourage our senior women to do this race, all of them in the ideal world!!! I will post results plus the fixtures for 2010 when these are sent to me.
