End of Year Run - 13.8K     Staplehurst   Tuesday 27 December 2011

31 yr-old Mark Wilkins is youngest of six IEK

Trevor Edgeley, Martyn Rouse & Dave Moorekite dominate vet-60s

Janice Moorekite is 3rd female vet-45

      Peter Bowell is 4th vet-40

For the last few years, a 10K run to mark the end of each year has been staged at Harrietsham but, in response to the notoriously unpredictable weather at this time of year, organisers did 3 things this year

1 - move to Staplehurst where the Village Hall is larger

2 - adapt the distance to the scenery, making it a 13.8K

3 - do away with advance entries so that, if the race has to be cancelled, there's no need for refunds...!

Six intrepid IEK members made the start line of the 2011 race : 31 yr-old Mark Wilkins - on the day, our most junior IEK by almost 16 years - was 2nd in just under 48 minutes, splitting two Victoria Park Harriers, race winner Sam Humphrey, who broke 47 minutes,

and Tom Heslop 3rd in almost 48½ minutes

The next two IEK finishers were evergreen vet-60s Trevor Edgeley and Martyn Rouse : Trevor (reigning National, Regional & county vet-60 Marathon champion) was 21st overall and 1st vet-60, clocking almost 1½ mins under the hour - Martyn (3rd vet-60) was about 1½ mins over the hour in 21st overall

Half a minute behind Martyn was Peter Bowell - at 47 our 2nd youngest in this race - who, in 23rd overall, was also 4th vet-40.

Janice Moorekite, our only female was 54th overall and 3rd vet-45 female while smiling Dave Moorekite was 6th of 8 vet-60s
