Lydia wins Shot - Sprinters outnumber the rest in Match 2 of KYAL

Lydia Gallyer Barnett broke through the 7 metre barrier for the first time to win the u-13 Shot with a National grade 3 effort of 7.16m [img:644l] and Max Farnell [pictured LEFT stylishly winning the Javelin] actually had the lane entirely to himself for the whole 100m and his 14.0 secs comfortably heads our u-13 ranking for 2010. Jaffer Adams (u-15) was just too powerful for the rest and swept to 100 and 200 sprint double - along with three 1st year u-13 female clubmates, he spearheaded the 9 sprints which dominated IEK's 20 performances on a cloudy Bank Holiday Monday at Bexley AC's track in Erith. In the team scoring sprints, Poppy Collins recorded National Grade 3 for both 75m and 150m, while Annabel Knight first posted Grade 3 in the short sprint, then a Grade 4 for the longer sprint. Rhiannon Wallwork won the u-13 Discus and High jump then raced, unchallenged,[img:646r] in a non-scoring 150m to equal Poppy's Grade 3 of 21.2 to consolidate Rhiannon's growing stature in this age group - she'd already set a new u-13 club record for 300m at the Club championships a week earlier. The u-13 Girls' relay squad for 4x100 is pictured right - Rhiannon (centre, facing the camera) and clockwise, Lydia [right} Poppy and Annabel (left) together overcame Blackheath and were only narrowly pipped by Tonbridge. 5 IEK contested middle distance events, 2 boys + 3 girls - Nathan and Jacob MacNally (both u-15) ran life-time bests in the 800m and 1,500m respectively, while Lilly Coward lead majestically from start-to-finish to win the u-15 800m by 50 meters. [img:645f] Molly Dawson [half hidden 3rd from right] was 9th in 1,000m where Anna Weston outwitted the Tonbridge favourite {4th from Left] by spotting a mid-way powerful surge by the new Cambridge Harrier, hidden far right. The light blue then made an impressive bid for victory 200m from home but couldn't shake off the resolute Anna whose best finish yet in the last 30metres not only won the race but also posted a time which puts her in the club's top 5 all-time u-13 list.
