Southern Counties VAC League-Kent Division-match 3-Div 2-Erith

4 IEK male athletes made the trip to Erith for the 3rd league match and finished 4th among the 7 teams competing. In the over-35s, Terry Hawkins placed 3rd in 100m “A” race (13.0) and 2nd in the LJ, 4.33m. In the over-50 events Tim Kerr finished 4th in the 800m (2:52.2) and 3rd in the LJ, 2.90m. After placing 4th in the over-35 discus (17-53m) David Glendower then contested the “B” 100m. Unfortunately he incurred an injury whilst doing so but bravely completed the race (24.7secs) and collected points for the team. Team manager John Gilbert won the over-60 discus (32.91m) and gained more points in the same age group 100m in 17.5secs. He then joined the other 3 IEK competitors in the 4x200m relay where David Glendower completed a leg despite his injury for the team to finish 5th in 3mis 48.1secs. Overall IEK are now 5th in the division. The next match is on MONDAY 14th JUNE.THE VENUE HAS BEEN CHANGED TO THE JULIE ROSE STADIUM AT ASHFORD (the Gillingham facility is not expected to be certified by then). Events to be contested are (men and women) 200m, 1500m, 4x400m, HJ, SP and JT. A good turnout for this “local” fixture should be achievable.
