Southern Mens League-Match 1 Sat 1/5/10-Newham Div 4E

Our 1st match of the new season saw 6 Invicta athletes make the journey to Essex to represent the club. The host Team have not yet provided detailed results so at this stage I will refer to those that I have and report on the others when they come to hand. Callum Barling-Jeffries cleared 1-55m in the A string HJ to gain 3rd while John Gilbert finished equal 2nd in the Bevent with 1.00m. Callum and John also contested the LJ. Junior Daniel Langringe was making his first appearance in the Mens League and says that he enjoyed it very much and will encourage his fellow Juniors to join him at future matches. In the 100m Daniel ran 13.2secs to claim 5th place in the A race while team manager John Gilbert collected 1 point for his distinguished last place in the Bevent-17.8sec. Daniel also competed in the 400m B race with Tom Purnell in the A string. Tom also did the A 800m and came 3rd -2-09.1-and the 1500m. Mark Wilkins very bravely contested the treble-800m; 1500m and 5K. Aaron Murray and John Gilbert contested all the throwing events. Aaron is still a Junior and had not competed since the club championship last September so his win in the A shot with a personal best-12-14m-was particularly pleasing and bodes well for the season ahead. John Gilbert managed 3rd in the B-7-95. John was also 3rd in the A hammer with Aaron in the B string. After the Javelin the final event, the discus, took place in torrential rain and the officials suspended the competition after the qualifying rounds. It was something of an achievement to even register a valid throw as the discus more resembled a bar of soap!!! The match result saw IEK in 5th place among the 7 teams present. Particular thanks to Gilien Davison for transporting Invicta Competitors to the match and then officiating all afternoon as Track Referee when requested at short notice to take on this responsibility by the host club. The 2nd match is this coming Sat 15/5 at Sutton. The sign-up sheet and other details are on the club house notice board. Please....please (especially you Juniors) do support the team.

Southern Counties VAC League - Kent Div 2, match 2, Canterbury

As host club for this fixture at our home track it was a pity that Invicta could only field 5 competitors in the mens match and 1 in the womens. Congratulations to those who did make the effort to represent the club. The men did well in the 400m with Martin Kelk placing 3rd in the 35+ A race- 61.1 and Dave Weston 3rd in the B race-68.8. In the 50+age group Richard Hudson (73.7) ran well to finish 4th. Richard then moved on to the 3K where 15-24.2 saw him finish 5th. Sue Cooper contested this same distance in the womens 50+ race and won by over a minute in 12-39.6. Very well done Sue. In the TJ Martin Kelk covered 8-68m in the 35+ event to finish 4th while John Gilbert was 2nd in the 60+ competition-5-56m. The mens hammer saw IEK gain maximum points with victories for newcomer David Glendower in the 35+ -23.20m (a new personal best) and John Gilbert in the 50+ -29.68m. Sue Cooper showed her versatility by placing 3rd in the womens 50+ hammer-11-73m- and individually earned sufficient points for IEK to finish 5th among the 6 competing clubs. The mens combined points placed them 4th among the 7 clubs present. The 3rd match of the season is next Monday 17/5 at Erith and will comprise 100m; 800m; 4x200m relay; LJ and discus. The timetable, track details etc are on the club notice board.
