Young IEK athletes on home turf in first 2010 Kent League match

The first 2010 fixture was at Canterbury on Sunday 11 April - because of holidays and other commitments a very small group of members competed but still managed a handful of first places and personal best performances. We had only two u15s on the day - Jaffer Adams was 1st in both 100m and 200m (12.2 and 24.7 respectively) and all three 1st places by Anna Alvarez - javelin (26.28m) shot putt (9.37m) discus (22.80m) - were at National Grade 2 standard. Jaffer's 100m was a Grade 3 while his 200m was at the higher standard of National Grade 2. In the u13 boys Elliot Burt had a nasty fall in the hurdles but finished the race. Meanwhile, Ryan Burt completed 80m sprint in 13.2seconds, was 4th in the hurdles and 2nd in high jump. Bradley Wakesmith recorded a Natinal Grade 3 PB of 8.02m in the shot and was 2nd in the long jump with 3.68m. In the u13 girls, 2 new members Rhiannon Wallwork and Tara Janes showed promise - Tara was 1st in 70m hurdles and competed in the 600m while Rhiannon scored 3 personal bests - long jump (4.03m) and 75m (10.8) are both National Grade 3, while her shot putt of 7.52m is at the higher standard of Grade 2. Corinne Wakesmith achieved a long jump of 3.00m while Poppy Collins ran both sprints, first 75m and shaving one tenth off her best in the 150m in a grade 3 time of 21.8secs. There were 2 non-scoring events for u11s - 600m and 75m - Holly Fielder, Olivia Clarke and Noah McCormack all competed in both : Holly (2m 03.9s and 12.1) Olivia (2m 27.5s and 13.9) and Noah (2m 34.8s and 15.0) A good day was had by all Gilien Davison (Acting Manager)
