Anna Alvarez silver in Nationals - 5 IEK compete at Bedford

In round 2 of the National u-15 Shot Put at Bedford, Anna Alvarez stepped into the circle 5th, lofted the 3.25kg shot 12.09m to overtake all but the eventual champion, Annabel Sherry (Cheltenham Harriers) to take silver with her 4th IEK Shot record this season. In winning the Kent title in May, Anna was 3 cm short of the club record set in 1995 by IEK's legendary multi-eventer Liz Gibbens. By the end of June, Anna had twice betterd Liz's 10.42m and in early July finished 6th in the English Schools (Birmingham) with 10.70m. In late July, Anna made club history with the first IEK throw over 11 metres at our own IEK Open : at Bedford she went one better with the first 12 metre throw. Jaffer Adams (u-15) ran 11.81 into a headwind for 7th in the semi-final of Saturday's 100m - the following day, Jaffer was edged out in the heats of 200m despite a near best 23.63 In the u-17s, Jake Rogers & Kieran Reilly tackled 1500m on Day 1, while Rebecca Weston did 800m on Day 2. Jake (4.25.75) wasn't in the right frame of mind in his heat, while Kieran (4.10.89) was a comfortable qualifier for a tactical final where he was a fine 6th, albeit 2 seconds slower in 4.12.66 Rebecca Weston (2.16.13) was unlucky to be edged out of the 800m final by 2/10ths after being boxed and buffeted in her heat where the 1st 5 were all within one second. ...For latest IEK rankings 2010 use grey tab [RIGHT] Rankings & Records .....To notify re. missed performances, click underlined text...[doc:702]
