Jaffer Grade 1 sprint - Max improves Javelin record

In June, Max Farnell was first IEK u-13 boy to throw javelin over 30 metres when taking silver at the Prep Schools National Finals - at our August Open Meeting, Thanet AC's James Mileham won with 32.28m (Grade 1) and Max was 2nd with 31.44m (Grade 2) improving his own club record by almost 1 metre. It was 1-1 between Jaffer Adams and u-15 IEK newcomer Joe Hawkins : Jaffer recorded Grade 1 at 100m ahead of Joe's Grade 3 in 100m - both recorded Grade 3 times when Joe won 400m by some 5 metres with Jaffer breaking 60 secs for the first time. Joe then went on to do Grade 2 in Long Jump with 5.58m, the longest leap of 15 competitors and only 2 cm short of Jaffer's best this season. Rhiannon Wallwork's 100m + Long Jump were both superb u-13 Grade 2 but she had to give way to one Thanet Anderson twin in 100m and to the other twin in Long Jump. Red Sparrows (Bobby Clay, Lilly Coward and Anna Weston) dominated Race 2 of 1,000m while u-17 pair Jake Rogers and Chris Thomas gave u-17 Kent 800m champion Kieran Reilly a good run for his money in Race 3. Two competitors recorded National Grade times in 3,000m - Rebecca Weston (u-17) stayed all the way with u-20 Jamie Bailey and was only 50m adrift at the end in a Grade 2 time. Beth Burnett was 6th overall in an u-17 Grade 4 time, close to her best. Lilly Coward (u-15) earned the Golden Trainer for performance of the day with her competitive 2nd place in 300m sprint only 3-4 minutes after a scintillating finish at 1,000m For full results of IEK August Open go to grey tab [RIGHT] above picture of track
