Winter Indoor Sportshall Competitions
Indoors (young athletes) + National cross-country at Leeds
Indoor Sportshall at Thanet
17 young IEK members all produced at least one season best performance in shot, long or vertical jump or speed bounce. Anna Alvarez dominated the u-15 Girls competition, Kieran Hawkins was our only u-13 boy and Lauren Fielder, Olivia Tomlin and Lydia Gallyer-Barnett were our u-13 Girls.
In the u-11 section, Elliot Burt completed the same events as everyone in our IEK teams of 4 : IEK Team 1 was Corinne Wakesmith, Holly Fielder, Anna Calzada and Rachel Butcher, IEK Team 3 was Lauren Macey, Noah McCormack, Oliver Lyons and Olivia Clarke, while IEK Team 2 comprised Finlay Pleace, Maddy Tomlin, Ryan Burt and Naomi Hawkins who together gained team silver.
IEK Men beat Tonbridge (Kent Champions) at Nationals in Leeds
Big team news is that our RED SPARROWS (u-13 Girls) beat the best club in England, Aldershot Farnham, and our Men (3rd Kent club) were well ahead of Kent champions, Tonbridge who were 5th Kent club at the 'Nationals' - moreover, ALL our 10 IEK Men were in front of Tonbridge's 6th scorer
We entered 49 members in 6 teams - thanks to the sterling efforts of Sue Rogers, Young Athletes Team Manager, a massive turnout of 35 athletes on the day means IEK had 4 teams at the English National Championships, the best for some seasons
Leading IEK individuals (ie. top 20)
* u-13 Fem - Bobby Clay (6th) only 12 seconds from Gold - at Southerns in January, Bobby beat Hope Goddard, the Leeds National winner [417 finishers]

Kent League XC (4) 2009/10 - Swanley Seniors only
IEK Men & Women both 3rd overall in Kent cross-country League
Strength in depth of our Male & female Seniors ensured both finished the season 3rd in their cross-country leagues after each fielded half their team capacity at the final fixture at Swanley, where our Women were 3rd on the day and our Men 5th.
Our Men, one of 12 Kent clubs to contest all 4 fixtures, finish 3rd in the table behind Tonbridge and Medway Maidstone - worryingly for grass roots sport, local rivals Ashford were absent throughout the campaign.
Our Women, one of 9 clubs in the county to contest all 4 fixtures, finish 3rd behind Tonbridge and Folkestone - here Blackheath Bromley as well as Medway Maidstone, two of the strongest Kent clubs, each missed one of the 4 fixtures
Tom Purnell & Mark Wilkins in top 20 in Men's Kent XC League
For the last fixture of the season at Swanley, featuring 113 finishers, we fielded seven Men - 5 Seniors, 1 under-20 and one vet who ran a 10k course.
Two senior newcomers James Wren (51st) and Mike Roberts (76) both raced for IEK as under-13s, well over a decade ago - at Swanley, James was 3rd IEK scorer behind Mark Wilkins (15) and Tim Corby (32) with under-20 Andy Cope 4th scorer in 53rd. Tom Purnell was 63rd and vet Adam Cowper Smith 72nd.
Only 2 of 15 IEK Men who raced this winter contested all 4 fixtures - Mark Wilkins ends up 6th overall with Tom Purnell 20th overall.
Claire Brown (4th overall) runs Sharon Hawkins close at Swanley
Over 5km at Swanley, Claire Brown broke into the top 10 of the Kent League (in her first full season in IEK colours) finishing 9th, just one place behind Sharon Hawkins, our leading senior female of the last few seasons. Claire is our only Senior Female to have contested all 4 fixtures and is 4th overall, while Sharon is 2nd best overall among those contesting 3 of the 4 fixtures.
At the core of our senior team this winter, Vicky Talbot Rosner (13) Calli Smith (18) and Sarah Newman (19) all also raced at Swanley to complete 3 of the 4 fixtures.

Over the 1st weekend of February 2010, no fewer than 47 IEK members competed

ROAD - Ashford 10K
Our Men & Women's teams were both 3rd with our local rivals, Canterbury Harriers 6th in the Men's and 4th in the Women's categories. Three of the 9 IEK competitors won their age group among the 609 finishers who were timed by our own IEK Chip Timing set-up.
Our Men's team was 3rd through Martin Kelk (12th male) Tim Sutton (15) and Alex Newson (33) while our Women were 3rd team through Liz Weeks (1st) Vicky Talbot Rosner (11) and Janice Moorekite 12th female finisher.
The 3 individual age group winners were Liz Weeks (Senior) Alex Newson (u-18) and Vet-60 Martyn Rouse - Liz Weeks gave notice of her potential by improving her best by 4 minutes to cross the line 29th overall and first female on the day in 38mins 06 secs, an impressive 8 seconds ahead of established county runner Sharon Hawkins of Maidstone Harriers.
Alex Newson (U-18) was 4 mins ahead of Folkestone's Tom Addison in the Junior category, while Martyn Rouse broke the 40-minute barrier (yet again) to remain an undefeated vet-60 on the road this season, with Michael Conway 6th v-60 in 46:54.
Martyn Kelk and Tim Sutton were 2nd & 3rd fastest vet-40s and Vicky Talbot Rosner was the 2nd fastest vet-45 female of the day.

3 Gold (Ellen, Rebecca & Jason) Anna silver at Kent Schools XC
Having finished in the top 40 at the Southern XC at Parliament Hill, Jason Prickett (fastest IEK male on the track at 5,000m last summer) secured his first ever county title when outsprinting Tonbridge's James Pigot in the final 200m of the Senior Boys at Wilmington, Dartford.
In the same race, James Reilly (10) earned a chance of selection as a reserve for Kent's team of 8 to contest the English schools at Manchester in March.
Both IEK Senior Girls are firm candidates for county honours as Helen Robinson [pictured RIGHT] was 6th in her first Kent Schools, only 30 metres behind Emily Hosker Thornhill who was bidding to contest her 5th consecutive English Schools.
After a few wobbles on the start line, Rebecca Weston majestically defended the intermediate title she won last year to maintain an impressive unbroken sequence of County Schools titles every year she competed since Year 7 - the 2008 event was cancelled due to.... snow!
Newcomer and 1st year intermediate Caroline Robinson (12) edged into the County team reserve list while female run of the day came from Rachel Burton (14) who was a minute ahead of a clutch of 3 IEK members, Enya Lonnergan (19) Beth Burnett (21) and the ever-improving Grace Leggatt who was 22nd.
In the Inter Boys, Kieran Reilly (7) was clearly focused on earning a place in the Kent team of 8, while 1st year Inter Jake Rogers (12) is a likely reserve finishing just ahead of Chris Thomas. Luke Dawson (16) was a minute ahead of Eddie Burton who was a creditable 24th.
In the Juniors (Years 8 & 9) sisters Alex & Bobby Clay were only 1 second apart in a sprint finish which nearly took them past the Tonbridge girl in 2nd, while Canterbury District champion Amy Old (15) continues to impress by finishing only 6 seconds behind stablemate Lilly Coward, a likely Kent reserve by finishing 12th. Newcomer Rebecca Wickington, bronze medallist at the Canterbury District event, was 22nd in her first outing at this level of competition.
The first 4 Canterbury Junior Boys are all IEK members : brothers Barney & Ross Howard (25th and 51st respectively) have only recently resumed regular training with the club, while Adam McKenna (60) & Sam Berry (61) were given identical times.
In a special year 7 race which doesn't involve selection for National Schools competition the only male IEK members were Tom Hume, a creditable 10th and Michael Bax who was 69th of 85 runers.
Our Year-7 Girls dominated the closest race of the day : Ellen Whitehead clinched gold, just 1 second ahead of Anna Weston and thus achieved her lifelong ambition to beat Anna. Fast-improving Molly Dawson was 6th, only 7 seconds behind rivals who'd been 30 seconds ahead of her at the Parliament Hill race the week before.
In all, eleven IEK members are in the frame, either as one of the team of 8 or as a reserve, to represent Kent Schools at the English Schools race in Manchester.

Brighton Marathon Places Up For Grabs!
Oh, we do like to run beside the seaside! Sense, the national deafblind charity, offers places in the first ever Brighton Marathon. Organisers estimate 30,000 for the new event.
The route takes in the South Downs, the heart of the city and the seafront. Highlights include the Royal Brighton Pavilion, Ovingdean Village and iconic Brighton Pier. The fast, flat, second half of the course should also encourage fast times.
Marianne Beggs, Deputy Head of National Events at Sense says, “Getting a place in a marathon is extremely difficult. For runners who missed a place in London Marathon, running the Brighton Marathon for Sense presents a great opportunity. All our runners receive a comprehensive support package from our expert marathon team.”
Money raised will fund work that helps deafblind people live as independently as possible. For further information about race places please contact Lindsey Telfer: 0845 127 0063 or marathon@sense.org.uk
Please note:
If your intrested in taking one of the places the deadline is Friday Feb 5th so you need to act fast!

Tim Corby & Liz Weeks lead charge at our own 10 Mile Road race
In their debut 10 mile race in IEK colours, Tim Corby (64mins 33secs) was our first man home 34th and Liz Weeks our first female - our men's team of Tim, Martyn Rouse (67:14) Tim Kerr (79:54) and Tony Piersall (85:32) were 14th of 19 clubs where local rivals Canterbury Harriers were 3rd, while our female team of Liz, Sarah Newman (79:26) and newcomer Fiona Feltham (79:27) were 5th of 14 clubs while Canterbury Harriers were clear winners, ahead of Beckenham.

The Holly Run incorporating SCVAC XC championships 2009
Despite heavy snow causing havoc throughout parts of Kent in recent days, two hardy Invicta runners braved the roads & headed off for The Holly Run incorporating the Southern Counties Vets AC cross country championships.
Vicky Talbot Rosner raced 2.5 miles in the F45 and Tim Sutton 5 miles in the M40s.
Conditions underfoot were mixed with heavy snow, rutted & sticky mud patches, with a long climb up to the top of the hill, which had magnificant views over the Sussex Downs, for a short flat respite, before plummeting down what felt like Surrey's own ski mountain!
Vicky had a small lap followed by a large, always smiling, she thoroughly enjoyed the race but wishes she'd worked a little harder, with less chatting, as she lost the FV45 gold by only 10secs!
Tim's race was 3 large laps - a steady first lap & careful descent down the mountain (!!!) confidence grew over the remaining two laps & he held his position, not talking to anybody, he took V40 gold by 20sec.
Report by Tim Sutton

Kent League XC 2009 (4) - Danson Park
IEK win 3 Kent XC league titles, Seniors both 3rd with one to go
The eight age group cross-country league titles decided in Bexley's Danson Park were cornered by just two clubs - IEK took 3 titles (u-13 Girls and both M & F u-20) with Tonbridge taking all the other 5, with mighty Blackheath Bromley netting 4 team silvers.
Our Senior Men's team, led yet again by Mark Wilkins (12) and James Cotton (17) were 3rd at Danson Park and are now 3rd team overall, as are our women - both Men & Women contest their final match in February.
Of 13 IEK Senior Men to have raced in red this season, Mark is highest overall (8th) with James Cotton 10th overall from 238 Men in the League.
Our u-13 Girls recorded an emphatic 4th win in a row with 5 IEK red vests in the top 10 and 7 reds in top 20. Bobby Clay (undefeated all season) took the overall title, with Anna Weston (4) and Lilly Coward (6) are 2nd and 3rd overall and are all pictured with Amy Old (clutching team winning trophy) who was 7th on the day and 5th overall.
Helen Robinson (3) and Rachel Seaman (6) helped our u-20 women comfortably win their league - our u-20 Men were undefeated all season and the race of the day featured a fit-looking Donald Carter pipping overall league winner Jason Prickett on the line. Strength in depth is key here, with Jamie Bailey (5) and James Reilly (6) finishing 4th and 5th overall.
Jake Rogers (2) was delighted to finish ahead of the league's No.1 u-15 Charlie Joslin-Allen from Tonbridge who was 3rd at Danson. Newcomer Rebecca Wickington (11) had a fine debut in u-15s where Alex Clay (4) finished 3rd overall.
Male run-of-the-day was Senior Tim Corby (46) whose recent club training accounts for his dramatic climb into the top 50 on the day, compared to his Somerhill debut finish in 77th.
Female run-of-the-day was Amy Old who, in just one short year, has progressed from 27th in Kent into the top 10

Steve Jones - tribute training session
Club fun training session pays tribute to Steve Jones
After saying our collective good byes to Steve Jones at Barham Crematorium on Tuesday 1 December, a cheerful wake was held at the Sportman's Bar at the Body & Mind facility by the track.
Steve's family were on hand to witness the club's Tuesday training session - a tribute session in Steve's memory - with teams doing shuttle relays where each team had to pick up various toys from buckets

click each photo to enlarge the view
Steve would have approved of the zany training where the entire relay team had to do 5 press-ups if caught carrying a soft furry toy when the hooter was blown

Seniors and vets were guilty of dubious counting of how many shuttle runs were actually done... and those same role models will never develop decent triceps by hiding the furry toys under the cones in order to avoid doing press-ups...
Ralph Noel caught the flavour of the session on his phone... Ralph remembers being ferried regularly as a 9-year old by Steve to-and-from training, which often ran along similar lines to the tribute session.
Mark's first Fitness League victory leads IEK Men to win in Blean
Seventeen IEK Reds stormed to victory in the combined Men & Women's event - our 10 scoring men (led by Mark Wilkins's first win in this league) won their section ahead of Larkfield and mighty Medway Maidstone - our 4 Women, led by Claire Brown (7th) were 6th on the day.

No fewer than 6 IEK males were in the top 30, 4 of them racing in this league for the first time this season.
Martin Kelk (14) and Tim Sutton (18) both made the top 20, newcomer Tim Corby was 22nd, ahead of evergreen Nick Brawn (28) and all 4 now feature in the top 50 overall after 3 fixtures.
In his 3rd race of this season, Ben Burton was 10 seconds ahead of Nick Brawn at Blean - Ben is now 85th overall.
Claire Brown is 10th overall among 189 women, Vicky Talbot Rosner (23rd) and Janice Morekite (63rd) is the only IEK female completing all 3 races this season

Cross Challenge 2009 - Liverpool
Young Reds learn to cope at highest level in Liverpool mud
Kieran Reilly, Rebecca Weston, Emily Hosker Thornhill (all u-17) and Jason Prickett
(u-20) all tasted high level of national competition at the McCain UK Cross Challenge in marshy conditions at Liverpool's Sefton Park at the weekend.
All 4 raced and finished strongly as they came through the learning process with flying colours in races which also doubled as trials for team selection to represent Britain in the European Championships next month.
In his first of 3 seasons at u-20, Jason Prickett (70th) is pictured right half way round the European trial where he finished closer to leading Kent rivals than he did all last
season.
Kieran Reilly (far right) consolidated his improving form by finishing inside the top 30 as he used his now trade-mark sprint finish to overhaul 4 older rivals up the incline of the last 200m, catching one, right on the line.
The u-17 and u-20 females all competed together in a combined race for places in the GB team for Europe - all contenders (except our own Beth Carter) were there, including Tonbridge's Grace Nicholls, winner of 2 Senior
Women's Kent League races this season.
Rebecca Weston (RIGHT) was a confident 57th overall and 22nd u-17, finishing less than a minute behind Nicholls, 20th overall and 14th u20 - click the photo of Rebecca to better see the mud all over her back.
Meanwhile, Emily Hosker Thornhill confirmed
her own steady improvement when storming home as 3rd Kent finisher behind Rebecca and Grace Nicholls.
Emily crossed the line strongly in 77th overall and 33rd u-17 in deep mud, among a clutch of rivals from as far apart as Cardiff and Hull and, only 44 seconds behind Rebecca

2009 KENT ROAD RUNNING GRANDPRIX FINAL STANDINGS
Without doubt, the road running side of the club has had a very successful year. I’ve had the pleasure of watching our squad grow both in skill and numbers throughout the season, the men coming so close to winning the title.
It’s also been good to witness the gradual turn around of our women’s squad : at the start of the year, I was very harsh about the lack of numbers but the girls have turned things around and I’m rubbing my hands for 2010, when both men and women, have a serious chance of clinching the title.
It’s not being over optimistic to imagine a double celebration for 2010 : it’s a totally realistic target for IEK`s road runners, it’s down to you guys and girls, to support the club and get out in numbers next season. Come on you REDS!!!

Club entries for the Canterbury 10 mile road race 31 Jan 2010
Many of you will now be planning training schedules building up to spring marathons including London - a perfect event in that build up programme is the 'Canterbury 10' on 31st January. This is our premier event of the year and we'd love to see red vests of IEK Runners flooding the field, especially at the front, dominating team prizes given success in the Kent Road Running Grand Prix.
However, the race takes a lot of volunteers to make it happen!
If you're an IEK member entering the race on 31 January - please supply us with a named volunteer to help on race day, there's a multitude of jobs (some even inside away from the cold and rain!) please mobilise your family and friends to help make your club's event, and your race, successful.
Volunteers for the Canterbury 10 mile road race 31 Jan 2010
This is the first rallying call for club members to mobilise and get behind the 'Canterbury 10' on Sunday 31 January 2010. We need close to 100 volunteers to make this event a success : many different types of job and skills are needed - whoever reads this already has skills that can help on race day.
If you're an early morning person, help before the race... If you're a late starter come along and help clear up afterwards. Most of all - please help!!
There's a list at the Clubhouse of jobs that need filling : names and contact details to Roger Newson Race Director or to Gilien on club nights - thanks in anticipation

Kent League XC 2009 (3) - Swanley
Beth Carter leads Seniors to victory - Bobby Clay undefeated
After missing the whole summer through injury,
Beth Carter stormed back to form with a narrow victory over Tonbridge's best Senior Woman Deirdre McDermott at Swanley. Claire Brown (8) and Stacy McKelvie (13) recorded their highest ever in the league while Calli Smith (20th) and Sarah Newman (nee Bonnage) were only 1 second apart with evergreen Sue Cooper (35) making our women convincing winners on the day. They move up to 3rd with one fixture to go, just one point adrift of Folkestone(30) with leaders Tonbridge on 34.
The only undefeated female in the entire league in all 3 fixtures is Bobby Clay (u-13) pictured right winning with
20 seconds to spare, leading the Red Sparrows to their 3rd win in a row. Anna Weston (3) Lilly Coward (5) and Ellen Whitehead (6) all made firm claim to places in the Kent team of 8, with Amy Old (14) and Molly Dawson (15) helping keep this team undefeated with one match to go.
Alex Clay (u-15) and Beth Burnett (u-17) were our only other females on the day, Alex slipping to 4th after her previous 2nd, while Beth was 10th, her best ever at this level.
Our u-20 Men won for 3rd time in a row to retain their firm grip at the top of their league with Jason Prickett (recovered from the bug which affected his previous
outing) winning with 28 seconds in hand. St Mary's student Donald Carter (4) and Andy Cope (5) were only
5 seconds apart, James Reilly and Jamie Bailey were 7th and 8th respectively.
In u-15 Boys, Luke Dawson is pictured left finishing 2nd in his best race ever in this league, Jack Smith was 21st.
Kieran Reilly (7) yet again lead the u-17 Men, ahead of scorers Chris Thomas (11) and Ben Burton 19th. Sam Hudson (fresh from his District Schools win in mid-week) was 21st with Jacob Burton (26) and Joe Marchant (31) helping keep this team 3rd in the league.

Steve Jones - multi-event coach (1932-2009)
Members will be saddened at the death of Steve Jones, one of our resident coaches with probably the widest and longest experience in all disciplines in athletics.
Nothing was ever too much trouble for Steve and he is best remembered for his unwavering cheerfulness and passionate belief that all youngsters should try as many different things as possible, before specialising.
While Steve was instrumental in developing talented athletes like Liz Gibbens and Julia Johnson, who were both English Schools champions, Steve always had time and endless patience for young athletes of all levels.
Steve regularly took athletes of all ages both to training and to matches all over the place and was a devoted family man, bringing his wife Jenny to many matches and the apple of his eye was his talented multi-eventing grand-daughter Anna.
A proposal has been put to the Club to introduce a memorial trophy to recognise the club's most versatile athlete each year, to be presented for the first time in December, at our club awards evening.
Steve was 77 years old, was in at the start of East Kent AC (always thought that our current name sounded like an address... Invicta East Kent...?) and was coaching right to the end - we will miss his warm smile and his willingness to help anyone who asked.

Senior Men & Women 4th, u-13 Girls + u-20 Men & Women all win
Our Senior Men and Women, both 4th in match 2 at Somerhill School (Tonbridge) are now both 3rd in the county league out of 17 clubs.
On a wet grey day, our Men's team of 9 (including 6 Seniors, 2 vets and one u-20) were level with Cambridge Harriers on 84 points, but clinched 4th thanks to our 4th
scorer Andy Cope (43rd) finishing ahead of Cambridge's 4th best who was 47th in a field of 148.
James Cotton (12) Damien Vadgama (14) Mark Wilkins (15) were all in the top 20, our best vet Stuart Reilly (68) Tom Purnell (76) and fine debut runs by Tim Corby (77) Ben Egan (82) with Tim Kerr 136th.
Our Senior Women's team of 3 vets and 1 Senior were led home again by evergreen vet Sharon Hawkins (7) the ever-improving Claire Brown (14) was up 5 places from the first match, and vets Vicky Talbot Rosner and Janice Moorekite 27th & 46th in a field of 78.
Three IEK teams won their matches and all 3 are top of the league - our u-13 Girls
are dominant with 2 wins out of 2 outings with Bobby Clay undefeated individually with Anna Weston (3) Lilly Coward (7) and Amy Old (9) with Molly Dawson 23rd in a field of 35 finishers.
Both our u-20 teams lead the league - the Women were led home by race winner Cath Lough (pictured left) with Helen Robinson 2nd and Rachel Seaman 4th.
Our u-20 Men were led home by an under-par Jason Prickett (3) with Jamie Bailey (4) and James Reilly 7th.
Realistically, for county rankings one has to bear in mind that 6 u-20 females, and 4 u-20 males, raced the Seniors on the day.
Jake Rogers (3) lead our u-15 team to 4th when he was the only u-15 other athlete in Kent among Tonbridge's formidable top 4 runners on the day - Eddie Burton and Jack Smith were 14 and 31 respectively.
Our u-17 Boys' team was 4th, led again by Kieran Reilly (8) with Chris Thomas (12) and Sam Hudson (20) while Joe Marchant (pictured right) was our 7th man home in 37th, with less than two months training under his belt.
Alex Clay boldly threw her customary caution to the wind to lead the 1st half and clinch a fine 2nd in u-15 Girls, while Emily Hosker Thornhill (5) and Beth Burnett 11th were stalwart u-17 finishers.
Senior run of the day - u-20 Andy Cope (Males) and Claire Brown (Females)

James Cotton skims over 'Quicksand 15' - Tony Piersall hangs on
Just one week after his splendid 23rd in a Kent League cross-country outing, James Cotton made light of the sapping sands to win Thanet Road Runners' quirky 15 mile Quicksand Race in 1hr 33 mins 08 seconds, a massive 8 mins 15 secs clear of an overseas rival, Arjan De Gier
Due to the tide, there's a 4 hr limit on this race...
In all, 28 Women and 80 hardy men completed this challenging race, among them Tony Piersall, our principal u-11 coach - in his last big outing before the New York Marathon, Tony crossed the line after 2 hrs 41 mins 08 seconds.
The last competitor made it home in 3 hrs 14 mins to beat the incoming tide by a comfortable 45 minutes...!

Kent Road Running Grandprix 27.9.2009 (UPDATE)
SUPER REDS CLINCH KENT GOLD IN FOLKESTONE HALF MARATHON
In a totally awesome display of road running, Invicta`s senior men clinched half marathon gold at the Folkestone Half Marathon, which counted for both Kent Grandprix and Kent Championships.
Such was the dominance of the team on the day, the first 4 IEK finishers were all senior men and, even though 3-count for the Kent Championships, our 4th place runner would still have clinched team gold!
Damien Vadgama and Mark Wilkins finished 2nd and 3rd overall and Tom Purnell set a new PB, finishing just ahead of our 4th senior Michael Gore.
Once again our M60s were in great form, Trevor Edgley dominated and took gold, Michael Conway the bronze.
Vicky Talbot-Rosner scooped silver in the W45s age group and special mention for Stacey McKelvie another of our new senior women : without any training for this event, Stacey's stunning debut was sub 1hr40!
RESULTS OF INVICTA ATHLETES:
2nd Damien Vadgama (SM) 1:15.29
3rd Mark Wilkins (SM) 1:15.45
24th Tom Purnell (SM) 1:25.24
35th Michael Gore (SM) 1:26.42
41st John Wilkins (M50) 1:27.34
46th Trevor Edgley (M60) 1:28.20
69th Nick Little (U20M) 1:32.14
90th Tim Sutton (M40) 1:35.31
115th Vicky Talbot-Rosner (W45) 1:38.03
123rd Michael Conway (M60) 1:38.42
132nd Stacey McKelvie (SW) 1:39.27
244th Tim Kerr (M40) 1:50.14

Update 1
The offical result of the Kent Championship Half Marathon has to be confirmed by race organisers etc, then made public..... Some fantastic individual performances and plenty of trophies and medals going Invicta`s way, more of the same in future races please!
In addition to the medallists already mentioned, IEK's Senior Men cleaned up the top two medals - Damien Vadgama (gold) and Mark Wilkins won silver.
Update 2
With one round of this year’s KGP remaining, team standings are looking quite stable at the top. After the brilliant display at Folkestone, IEK are 2nd in the Men's standings, pretty much secure, barring a disaster at Wilmington! Tunbridge Wells are top with Larkfield AC third.
Maidstone Harriers are pretty much home and dry at the top, in the Women’s championship - IEK women are in a solid 4th place and should hold this place with a half decent turn out in the final round, the Wilmington 10K.
Senior Men: Tom Purnell is still our best placed senior currently 6th overall, Mark Wilkins is 9th, but when the dropped scores kick in, he will be placed currently 2nd overall. Third IEK senior man is Michael Gore in 43rd.
M40s - Tim Sutton leads our clubs challenge here, 7th overall with Peter Bowell 71st.
M50s - John Wilkins is 5th with Adam Cowper-Smith 11th.
M60s - by far our strongest male age group - Trevor Edgley is top, Michael Conway is 3rd with Martyn Rouse 6th. Trevor is also 10th overall male.
Senior Women: Brianna Zoll (42nd) is still our best woman, Stacey McKelvie is 96th, but if she races Wilmington will leap up the leaderboard. This still is a building year for our Senior Women, next year looks a far more competitive season in prospect!
W45s - by far our strongest female age group - Vicky Talbot Rosner is 2nd with Sue Cooper 5th, Janice Moorekite (8th) is our 3rd lady.
The last race of 2009 is the Wilmington 10K - our teams are pretty much secure, but a reasonable turn out is desired from me! And I would really like to encourage our senior women to do this race, all of them in the ideal world!!!
I will post results plus the fixtures for 2010 when these are sent to me.
(Michael Gore - IEK Road race co-ordinator)
Senior teams both 4th - Jason, Emily & Bobby individual winners
Both Senior teams were a creditable 4th in the opening XC fixture at Capstone Park, Gillingham - 9 Men were lead home by Damien Vadgama (11th) and
our 6 Women by Sharon Hawkins, 6th.
Senior run of the day - James Cotton (23rd male) and Claire Brown, 19th female.
Jason Prickett (1st) lead a powerful u-20 Men's team to victory - u-17 Kieran Reilly (6) and u-15 Jake Rogers (5) both led their teams to 4th.
Rachel Seaman (3) and Alex Clay (4) were our lone u-20 + u-15 runners respectively, while Emily Hosker Thornhill was a focused winner to lead our u-17s to 3rd.
Although we had no u-13 boys, our u-13 Red Sparrows laid down a marker with an emphatic team win with all 5 in the first dozen, lead by Bobby Clay's storming win.
Junior male run of the day, u-15 Adam Mckenna (37th in 1st ever race) and female, Amy Old (11) whose only other XC race (ever) was Detling...10 months ago

Becky & Sarah pioneer female athletics
Becky Reilly followed Paddock Wood's Sarah Shepherd across the line at our 2009 Club Chamopionships to become the first u-17 females, in the history of either club, to contest the steeplechase
New IEK all-time female record
Becky's time of 7 mins 31.4 is the first ever IEK mark for u-17 Females and it clips 4 seconds off Joanna Jeffery's all-time IEK female record for 1,500m steeplechase, set in 1997
Becky entered at the last minute and the only coaching she got was 10 minutes before the race with Club Chairman James Roberts who was 3rd in English
Schools steeplechase at Hendon in 1964
Minutes after Becky's race, Sam Hudson won the u17 men's 1,500m steeplechase ahead of the biggest field ever to contest the u-17 club championship
Over the summer, 112 club members collected a massive 196 club championship titles, 87 silvers and 45 bronzes across all age groups in 14 track & 9 field events : the curtain was brought down at CHS track in true pioneering style in the very last event of the 2009 Club championships by two girls, one from each club - IEK and guests, Paddock Wood.

Kent Track & Field Championships - 2009
Martin Kelk Kent Vet 800m-1500m champion
In two memorable days at Erith, Martin Kelk took two Kent track titles in dominant style : on Day 1, Martin stormed majestically to the 800m title, 3 seconds ahead of David Coulson of Hailsham Harriers.
Just 24 hours later Martin proved too strong for the rest and came away with 1500m gold, more than 100m clear of his nearest rivals from Bexley and Ashford.
Martin is pictured 2 days later (in our clubroom) minutes after claiming our club championship 3,000m vet-40 title. He was to go on (2 days after the picture) to retain his club vet-40 800m title, one second faster than he posted last year.
Martin rounds off a busy week when he defends his 1500m club championship title on Sunday.
9 IEK teams bag 5 medals at Kent Relays
Smoothest baton handover of the day featured Emily
Hunt to Laura Clark on the last change in the heats of the u15 Girls 4x100.
The team was 4th in the final
and the same quartet of Amber Mustafa, Laura Clark, Annabel Carter & Emily Hunt (pictured RIGHT) later took a fine bronze in the 4x200

I have had emails from Invicta runners requesting a more recent version of the road rankings list - normally I do this on a 3-month cycle, but as the road racing scene is becoming more popular here at Invicta, I will now update more often. As always I can miss results, so please if you have raced any distance which is not recorded on the list, please email me the race results and your recorded time.
