South of England Inter-Counties

Invicta athletes were amongst those selected to run for Kent at the South of England Inter Counties event at the weekend in Horspath, Oxford. This event sees the top 8 cross country runners from 13 different southern counties running for both individual and team medals.

Tom Hutton was the first Invicta athlete to run in the mild but muddy conditions and finished a very creditable 52nd in a field of 98 U13 boys.

Next to attack the undulating course and steep hills in the woods was Alexandra Millard, running a superb race to come in 9th place overall out of 107 runners, was the first U15 Kent girl home and helped this team to a bronze medal.

The rain then set in for the afternoon making the ground even more slippery underfoot but perfect for these seasoned cross country runners. Charlie Brisley and Matthew Stonier (U15 boys) battled through the elements on their undulating 4K course with Charlie racing in to 4th position and a team gold and Matthew 26th in a superb battle.

Ella Fox was next at the start line looking strong throughout to come in a superb 26th out of 90 U17 runners.

Finally, Lily Coward ran a superb race coming in 2nd place in the women's U20, winning both individual and team silver. Sarah Hall ran strongly too with an excellent 31st place.

Well done to all. The hard training sessions are really paying off. Thank you to Peter, Ralph and James for their continuing support, encouragement and commitment.
