New Sponsor for 2018 Canterbury 10 Mile Road Race

The Canterbury 10 Mile Road Race which is the largest in East Kent will take place on January 21st 2018 with a new sponsor. Korean car brand SsangYong, for which John Parker & Sons have the East Kent franchise will take the headline sponsorship for the race which is mainly run along undulating country lanes to the south of the city. Locally based Invicta East Kent runner Abel Tsegay will be going for his 4th straight victory and will aim to improve on his personal best around the course of 51m 36sec.

 

The race, which is organised by Invicta East Kent Athletic Club, boasted a record entry of over 1400 runners this year and it is hoped that this total can be topped for 2018. Runners of all abilities are encouraged to challenge themselves over the 10 mile distance.

 

Canterbury Christ Church University Sports Centre will continue as the race HQ after a successful first year in 2017.

 

There will also be an increased cash prize fund for the first 3 male and female runners and for the first man V40, V50, V60 and V70 and lady V35, V45, V55 and V65. There are also prizes for the winning male and female teams.

 

All runners will receive a quality medal and free photographic downloads. There will also be free massage at the finish offered by Kesson Physiotherapy.

 

The race will once again support the Pilgrims Hospices with £ 1,500 being donated to this worthwhile charity in 2017.

 

Race Director Glenn Mousley has said “the 2017 race was the best ever with a great atmosphere in the race and at our new HQ. It is set to be a popular race, so potential entrants for the 2018 edition should register in good time to ensure a place”.
