Youngsters shine at Kent Young Athletes League

On Sunday 2nd July, Invicta’s youngsters grouped together again for the 3rd and penultimate match of the Kent Young Athletes League.

 

Invicta finished 3rd on the day and we had some fantastic individual performances as well.

 

Kick starting the day was Chloe Sands (U13) in the 70m hurdles. She finished in second place with 13.9. Shortly after, she sprinted to 5th place in the 75m with a time of 11.7, both not far off her personal bests! Chloe also took on the long jump, finishing in 4th place with a jump of 3.85, while Hollie Baker finished 4th in the B string with a jump of 3.1m.

 

Charlotte Simmonds finished 5th in the 150m with a time of 23.5. She later took on the 1200m finishing in 3rd with a time of 4:48.

 

Ellie Diddams proved herself as a strong thrower, competing in the shot putt, hammer AND javelin. She finished 2nd in the shot with a throw of 5.88m, 2nd in the hammer with 15.47 and 5th in the javelin with 8.83.

 

Over to the boys and Arthur Samson (U13) started his day with a strong 3rd place in the 100m with a time of 14.7 just 0.1 shy of first place! Later he finished 4th in the 200m with a time of 30.2 and also helped his relay team to 5th place in the 4x100.

 

James Gill also took on the 100m, winning the B string with a time of 14.9. James jumped into 4th place in the B string of the long jump with a jump of 2.70m.

 

In the same age group, Benedikt Stokes finished 6th in the 200m with a time of 34.5 before also taking on the 4x100 relay. Benedikt also entered as a non-scorer in the 100m, finishing 3rd with 16.5 and the shot putt finishing 1st with 5.02.

 

Reef Page and Jamie Keir lead the way for Invicta in the 1500m with Reef winning the A string in 4:55.4 and Jamie the B string with 4:56.2. Excellent running from both boys with both producing huge new personal bests – having each other to run with definitely helped! Reef also finished 2nd in the shot putt with a throw of 6.01.

 

Freddie Oliver finished 2nd in his 75m hurdles with a time of 15.3 before later jumping to second in the high jump with a jump of 1.20. Meanwhile, Riley Holness finished 7th in the long jump with a jump of 3.03. Freddie & Riley also entered some events as non-scorers. Freddie in the long jump where he came second with a jump of 3.73 and Riley the 200m where he finished 3rd with 32.3.

 

We also had James Enever in the discus who threw 11.65m.

 

Danny Wake-Smith and Jens Chappell formed a great duo in the discus and javelin, with Danny taking part in the A string and Jens the B string. Danny finished 3rd in the discus with a throw of 16.66m; a new PB for him while Jens finished 2nd in the B string with 12.49. In the javelin, Danny finished 2nd with a throw of 27.36 (a huge new PB!) and Jens 4th with a throw of 11.87. Danny also finished 2nd in the B string shot putt with a throw of 5.34.

 

Unfortunately we were short on U15 boys for this match, but we still had some strong performances. Jake Goodman finished 1st in the 100m with a time of 11.9, a new PB for him while Henry-James Finch finished 4th in the B string with a time of 14.2. Unfortunately, Henry had to drop out of the 300m due to injury. Sam Newson finished 1st in the 1500m with a time of 4:38.7, another new PB!!

 

Neil Schenk finished 3rd in the 80m hurdles with a time of 13.7, a new personal best for him! Neil also finished 4th in the long jump with a jump of 4.62.

The team performance of the day has to go to the U15 girls who won their age group by over 30 points.

 

Issy Harding, following her successful English Schools Combined selection took to the 75m hurdles, winning with a time of 12.1, very close to her PB. Issy also leapt to first place in the long jump with a jump of 4.61 and later also winning the shot putt with a throw of 7.97.

 

Sofia Bashir also took on the 75m hurdles, coming 1st in the B string with a time of 14.5. Sofia also finished 2nd in the B string long jump with a jump of 3.78 and 2nd in the B string hammer with a throw of 6.52.

 

Imogen Davis won her 100m with a time of 13.7, a new PB for her! She also won her high jump with a jump of 1.35m, another personal best! She also won the B string of the shot putt with a throw of 7.36. A great day all-round for Imogen!

 

Maddison Sawyer had a fantastic win in her 300m with a time of 44.1, a new PB! Bethany Waite finished 3rd in the B string with a time of 49.2. Emilia Stokes entered as a non-scorer, finishing 2nd with 47. Bethany also entered the long jump as a non-scorer, jumping into 2nd with 3.53m. Maddy also finished 2nd in the hammer with a throw of 15.09.

 

Jildou Chappell and Emilia Stokes kept with each other in the 1500m, with Jildou finishing 3rd in the A string with a time of 5:21.7 and Emilia winning the B string and not far behind with 5:24.1. The two girls later teamed up in the discus with Jildou winning the A string with a throw of 19.14 and Emilia the B string with 12.89.

 

The day finished with some fantastic relay performances, notably, the combination of Issy Harding, Jildou Chappell, Maddy Sawyer and Emilia Stokes who ran a superb 4x300 relay. It was a delight to watch.
