Invicta’s English Schools success!

On 7th & 8th July, 2000 of Britain’s best up and coming athletes gathered at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham for the English Schools Championships.

These 2000 athletes included 4 from Invicta East Kent.

In the Junior Boys age group, Oscar Parrick took on the 800m. Oscar finished 7th in his heat with a time of 2:06.37 (exactly the same time given to the athlete in 6th place). Oscar remains 30th in the country for the 800m.

Oscar’s teammate, Alexandra Millard took to the track for the Inter Girls 1500m. She ran a very strong and closely fought race keeping with the front of the pack for the majority. In the end she had to settle for 9th place with a time of 4:49.20 but an excellent run from her!

Charlie Brisley was up against a tough field of 26 athletes in the Inter Boys 3000m. He finished in 16th place with a time of 9:04.26. Charlie remains in 34th in the country after his sub 9 minute PB in early June.

On Friday 7th July, Louise Evans produced a superb run to finish her heat in 1st place in the Inter girls 300m, she also took away a season’s best of 39.6. Last year, she narrowly missed out on the final by 0.1s so to make it easily through to the final was a big improvement this year. She was delighted! On Saturday, the final was closely fought race with photo finish being needed to separate 2nd, 3rd and 4th place. Unfortunately, Louise just missed out, claiming 4th place with a time of 39.62. Louise, understandably was gutted. However, finishing in 4th place at a National Championship is a huge achievement and Louise still sits in 7th in the country for 300m. Louise now looks to the 400m as she will move up to that distance from September. However, she already sits 8th in the 400m having run it just once this year.

Well done to Oscar, Alex, Charlie & Louise for their performances this weekend. Even just to qualify for English Schools is a huge achievement!
