July 2010 Open results

Among record entry of 118 competitors, Jaffer Adams is strong candidate for athlete of the meeting with two Grade 1 times (100m + 200m) plus as a Grade 2 long jump. Rhiannon Wallwork also posted 2 Grade 1 performances plus a Grade 2 and her best performances were both against one the u-13 Anderson twins from Thanet AC.July Open 2010 - Registrations
Rhiannon got the better of Tamara Anderson in both 100m and Long Jump and her Grade 2 was at 200m when pipped by Ashford's Amber Currie who is u-15.
In a different heat, Thanet's Georgina Anderson (u-13) was the only female to post Grade 1 at 200m.
Bravest performance was by 9 yr-old Laura Parrish (IEK) whose race 2 lap race was called back when her heels were clipped right at the start and, despite a bruised and bleeding knee, she raced Thanet's Hannah Denny all the way and now holds the Golden Trainer until the next Open.
Most exciting race of the meeting featured school mates Rebecca Weston and Annabel Carter who raced stride-for-stride in the 200m where they were given identical times, Annabel getting the verdict from the 3 judges

July Open 2010 - Laura Clark (Long Jump)Callum Barling Jeffery and Charlotte Burnett made club history as the first u-20 male & u-20 female to win Club Championship Long Jump titles in the same season.
Both u-17 champions, Laura Clark [LEFT} and Ben Burton produced their best in the last round - Ben doing so while brother Jacob was claiming the u-17 5,000m title.
Although not yet 13, Tara Janes is u-15 for the season under UKA rules and wins the u15 title with her best leap in round 3.

July Open 2010 - Martin K, Tim Sutton, Adrian D - 5000mTerry Hawkins two best jumps in vet-40s were only 4cm apart as he overcame the early challenge of Martin Kelk who left after one round to contest, and win, the vet-40 5000m crown. Martin (LEFT] is pictured at halfway leadng Adrian Dawson with Tim Sutton playing a waiting game to eventually finish 13 seconds ahead of Adrian.
July Open 2010 - Liz Weeks (5,000m)Beth Burnett (u-17) was the youngest to win a 5,000m title - Vicky Talbot Rosner is our v-50 champion ahead of Sue Cooper.

Mark Wilkins took time out from preparations for the Rotterdam Marathon to win our Senior Men's 5,000m title from a much-improved Tom Purnell, Barry Hopkins picking up the Senior Men's bronze in his debut at this distance.
Mark stayed with defending u20 champion Jason Prickett until Jason surged with 3 laps to go - Jason could notch up a rare u20 hat-trick next year when he'll still be u20.

2010 Discus championships at June Open

Sixteen of the 20 entries for the Discus at our June Open locked in close competition for our internal club championships 2010, none closer than Chris Monticolmbi's 2nd round effort just 8cm further than Callum Barling Jeffery's throw in the same round, both then recording NT when trying too hard in the last round.
Tight battles in the two u-13 competitons had just 1 meter separating the medallists - Max Farnell had 2 NTs before pulling out a winning throw in the last round to scrape past Kieran Hawkins's last effort of 14.21m, while Olivia Tomlin (3rd) Lydia Gallyer Barnett (2nd) and eventual champion Rhiannon Wallwork all also made their 3rd and final throw their best.
Barney Howard had to give way to older brother Ross who landed the u-15 boys title with 16.41m - in the u-17 Men, Sam Hudson left it to his last throw to split the Burton brothers, Jacob notching a fine title with his last throw of 26.84m.
Despite his best in round 2, Martin Kelk had to give way in the vets championships to defending champion Terry Hawkins who improved by 1m in each round to finish on 24.47m

300m and Mile races at June Open

Poppy Collins recorded 46.6secs, a new age group best, when scorching round the 3/4 lap race, 2 seconds ahead of Annabel Knight and 1 second ahead of Rhiannon Wallwork - all 3 were well inside the 48.6 IEK age group best set by Rhiannon at the previous Open in May 2010.
In the Mile, Jason Prickett was a comfortable winner in 4.37.7 after his earlier silver in the club championship 400m - Josh Freemont and Kieran Reilly among those who broke the 5-minute barrier.
In the second Mile race, Lilly Coward, Ellen Whitehead, Alex Clay and Anna Weston were among 5 athletes all with a shout at 200m, the point at which Barney Howard (u15) took off to win by 2 seconds - Alex Clay (u15) gave chase and then had to hold off the late challenge by Anna Weston (u13) whose 5.36.1 knocks 2 seconds off the u13 record set by sister Rebecca in 2006.

u-11 races at June Open 2010

Finlay Pleace won Race 1 of the 75m ahead of Holly Fielder and Ella Aston Mitchell, while in Race 2 Madeleine Tomlin just got the verdict over Lara Parrish, with Harry Codd 3rd.
The policy of separating 7 & 8 year-olds from 9 & 10 year-olds in the longer races worked well : Ben Evans won the younger race over 1 lap from Lauren Macey and Harry Codd, and Kane Clay was chased to the line in the 600m by Holly Fielder and Josh Richards.

2010 400m club championships at June Open

The 400m club championships for senior & vets will be held later in the season - meanwhile our young athletes all delivered the expected drama of high calibre competiton : Rebecca Weston stole the limelight when winning the u-17 title in National Grade 1 time of 58.6 to shave 3 tenths of Angela Weller's 1987 record - Chris Chancellor's u20 title, ahead of Jason Prickett, was a smooth and stylish Grade 2 time - Jaffer Adams's first ever outing at this distance in 60.3 makes him our u15 club champion.
Eight u17 Men provided an epic heats + finals scenario in which all 5 finalists broke 57 secs : Alex Tuck (52.0) was a clear champion when reversing the 1 second defecit to Ben Burton in the final of the county event 4 weeks earlier, both athletes now recording National Grade 2.

IEK Open Graded Meetings -

Jason & Rebecca set All-time Club records at IEK August Open

Despite family holidays which traditionally affect numbers at the August Opens, nearly 90 entrants provided 27 personal best performances in the 4 track events and half a dozen more PBs in the 2 throws and the 2 jumps. The icing on the cake was two new Invicta club records and one age group record.
Highest individual performer was Chris Chancellor (Grade 1 at 400m) and most prolific performer was pentathlete Anna Alvarez who recorded two Grade 2s (Shot and Javelin) then she raced Emily Hunt close in the 300m for u15 girls.
4 of the 5 athletes posting Grade 3 times were from the host club : Mac Cole (u17) and Laura Clark (u15) were both smooth 100m winners - Megan Eeles and Ashford's Sam Beckett (both Grade 3) were only 1 second apart in Megan's debut 400m race - Emily Hosker Thornhill was only 11 seconds short of Grade 2 in a rare outing at 3,000m.
The Male A race at 400m was arguably the highest overall standard - Ashford's race winner Gareth Morris (u20) and 3rd placed Alex Tuck (u17) both posted age group Grade 2 times. However, 2nd placed Chris Chancellor posted the highest standard track performance of the evening with an u17 Grade 1 time of 51.4, less than half a second outside his best, set in the heats of the club championships last month.
Two 1,000m races provided plenty to enthuse about : first, a fine 3-way tussle among u13 girls Lilly Coward, Anna Weston and Ellen Whitehead, giving a clear glimpse of the strength in depth that is developing among our athletes of tomorrow.
Then Alex Newson was a tantalising 1 second short of the u17 record set in 1995 by English Schools' bronze medallist Andy Beckwith.
Finally, two long-standing All-time 1,000m records (one male, one female) were demolished by Jason Prickett and Rebecca Weston. First, Jason majestically chopped a full second off the dual u20 and all-time male record set by English schools silver medallist Tim Davis 14 years ago.
Then Rebecca, fresh from a family holiday which allowed her to recover from a groin strain, raced ahead of Alistair Noel and into the history books by becoming the first IEK female to break the 3 minute barrier, her time a full 10 seconds faster than the u17 best (Charlotte Dale in 2000) and an incedible 6 seconds faster than Emily Hosker Thornhills' all-time female record set in this same Open 2 years ago.
Martin Kelks' dip under 3 minutes at 1,000m is the first by a Male vet-40, eclipsing his own vet best last year by almost 20 seconds.
In the Javelin two IEK boys were peppering the 25-30metre mark while in the Pole Vault Luke Williams (Paddock Wood) was best on the day with 3 females all leaping around the 3 metre mark

IEK Open - June 2009 -

Chris Chancellor obliterates 1987 record for 400m

While our Senior men and Women have new 400m champions in Tom Purnell and Sarah Bonnage, and Jason Prickett scorched round in 51.9 for the u-20 title, it was the u17s in particular who stole the show.
Rebecca Weston stylishly posted a Grade 1 time to become the new u-17 female 400m club champion when holding off the strong challenge of training partner Emily Hosker Thornhill whose 62.4 was itself a grade 3.
However, the undoubted talking point of this successful Open meeting (which attracted 40Chris Chancellor - kent Champs 2009 more competitors than did last month's Open) is Chris Chancellor's scintillating first ever 400m run. The depth of talent among our u-17 Men required two heats, with the final to be contested later in the season - Chris Chancellor installed himself as firm favourite for the title when recording a breathtaking Grade 1 time of 51.0 to win heat 1 in his first ever race longer than 200m. Chris also slashed almost a second off Kieron Mansfield's 22 year-old u-17 record.
In Chris's wake, Kieran Reilly and Sam Hudson posted pb times to reach the final - Alex Tuck held off both Jacob AND Ben Burton to win heat 2 by a narrow margin.
Jake Rogers and Annabel Carter are crowned u-15 club champions at 400m, and Sue Rogers and Tim Kerr are our vet champions over one lap.
Elsewhere, Chris Thomas looked strong when winning a quick 800m, Callum Barling Jeffery won the shot and the high jump, and Dominic Owen's winning Discus throw was an u-15 grade 3.
Visitors from other clubs recorded impressive grade 2 in the verticle jumps - u-20 Emmeline Rendell (Ashford) at pole vault and u-13 Lewis Church (Sevenoaks AC) cleared 1.40m in the high jump.
