Invicta road runners snatch county gold in medal fest at Thanet

[img:381l]Invicta`s long distance road runners ruled the roads at the Thanet 20, used as a warm up for the Flora London Marathon, and this year's race also doubled as Kent Grandprix and Kent county 20-mile championships. On a day when Invicta won many medals, the Mens team took county team gold and, in a fantastic 3-man display, we scooped 2nd place open team as well! [img:380l]Mark Wilkins took county individual bronze when leading the team home - all the more remarkable as he had been sidelined with injury for 2-weeks and wasn't even expecting to race! 2nd Invicta runner home was Adam Cowper-Smith (22nd) to clinch county age group bronze with another fine run which shows longer races really suit him. Trevor Edgley (26th) scooped the V-60 county gold, and was third IEK man home, another first class race performance. As this is a 20-mile race, our turn out was a little down : some were either not planning to run the Flora London Marathon, or were short on quality mileage - however, Tim Kerr and Sue Cooper both put in super runs for their first ever 20-mile race, so they both set a PB! Invicta Results: 3rd Mark Wilkins (SM) 2:00.30 22nd Adam Cowper-Smith (M40) 2:15.58 26th Trevor Edgley (M60) 2:17.35 144th Tim Kerr (M40) 2:40.29 164th Sue Cooper (W45) 2:41.56 After the third round of the season, Invicta's positions in the Kent Grandprix are quite promising : Invicta Men are currently scrapping for 2nd overall with Larkfield. Tunbridge Wells Harriers are extending their lead at the top of the table, so a full turn out is needed at Darent Valley, to try and claw the gap back a little. The women are struggling to get numbers out, and this is reflected in the current position of 10th overall and will drop even further if more numbers do not turn out so PLEASE GIRLS get to these races or I shall be coming after you all!!! (lol) . Maidstone Harriers currently lead the womens team standings. Individually, our top senior man is an M60 - Trevor Edgley (8th) shows just what a fantastic season he is having. Mark Wilkins (9th) has raced less, if he shows up for five races or more, he could win the championship! Tom Purnell (16) is our next runner. Tim Sutton is currently 10th M40 and our top M50 is John Wilkins (7th) with Adam Cowper-Smith in 9th. The M60 age group is currently our strongest section - Trevor Edgley leads outright with Michael Conway 4th and Martyn Rouse 5th. In the Senior Women our W45s lead the way with Sue Cooper 10th followed by Vicky Talbot-Rosner (who has raced less) in 40th. Special mention must go to Bianna Zoll who, in her debut season, is our only senior and she places a very respectable 45th, in the top half of the league! In the W45, Sue Cooper (4th) is having a very good season, with Vicky Talbot-Rosner 7th. Full listings can be seen by going to the Kent Grandprix events page where the standings are listed.
