Eight IEK vet Males + 1 IEK vet Female tackle County event

Five IEK Vet Club champions 2011 are crowned

The vet-40 & vet-50 Men both raced 9,500m while the vet-60 & vet-70 Men + all females raced 4,800m over a testing hilly course in Croydon.
Evergreen Michael Conway won the 2011 Men's vet-70 county title in style with a one-and-a-half minute lead over nearest rival Ronald Smith (Sittingbourne Striders) while our lone female competitor Sharon Hawkins won the Women's vet-45 race with 20 seconds to spare from Tara Taylor of Tunbridge Wells Harriers The winner of the Men's Kent vet-50 race, Tonbridge's |
Graeme Slaker, was 13 seconds faster than Dartford RR's Andy Green who won the county vet-40 race over the same course.
Similarly, Rob Whittaker (10th vet-50) was over half a minute faster than our only two vet-40s, Simon Kendall & Tim Sutton who were 34th & 57th in the vet-40 event.
IEK's only team of the day, was vet-50s - Gavin Knight (41) & Tim Kerr (60) joined Rob Whittaker to finish 8th club, just behind Canterbury Harriers and just ahead of Sittingbourne Striders |
Two IEK vet-60s still give good account of themselves - Trevor Edgley was 5th, over 5 minutes ahead of Club stalwart Eddie Broad who was 29th
These races doubled as IEK vet club championships - thus Michael Conway, Trevor Edgley, Rob Whittaker, Simon Kendall and Sharon Hawkins are duly crowned club champions 2011 in their respective age groups - Tim Sutton (v-40) Gavin Knight (v-50) and Eddie Broad (v-60) took age group silver in the club champonships, and Tim Kerr the bronze for v-50s |
