Watford Open - 18 May 2011
|
Early in the evening Sam Hudson bravely went with the leaders on the first lap of a fast 800m race and learned the hard way the old adage that for each second under target on the first lap, you get 2 seconds deficit on the 2nd lap
In the last race of the evening, Jason Prickett, fresh from his double gold at 800m & 1500 in Kent Championships, became only the 7th u-20 in the UK so far this season to crack 8mins 30secs for 3,000m. Racing behind two u-20s from Bedford (who posted times No.1 and 4 this season so far) Jason had to dig deep on |
the penultimate lap then turned in a strong and composed final lap to improve his best time at this distance by almost 30 secs to 8mins 28.92 secs.
This puts Jason 4th on our IEK All-time u20 list behind...... 1 Dominic OMahoney 8:22.50 to win English Schools 1993 2 Phil Hogston 8:24.27 in 1992 3 Andy Beckwith 8:26.24 in 1997 The two next fastest u-20s in IEK history are both on 8:44 with 7 running under 9mins - next best u-20 this season is Kieran Reilly, ranked 9th with his best u-20 time of 9:02.3 at the IEK Open in mid-may 2011 |
