Watford Open 6    -    Wednesday 29 June 2011

... Emily proves a point by going well under English Schools qualifying time

... Alistair within whisker of 1500 pb

Turning out in the blue of the old club East Kent AC, Alistair Noel (u-20) was 8th in Race 9 of 17 in the 1500m and his 4.31.13 came very close to his 1500m pb set in the heats of the 2010 Kent Championships.

Boldly taking things on in the middle phase, Alistair led at the bell and make all his rivals earn their places, only 7 seconds covering the first 12 finishers.

The English Schools 3,000m qualifying time for Senior Girls (yr 12-13) is 10mins 18secs : in her first outing at this distance this season, Emily Hosker Thornhill was 7 seconds short in winning u-20 Kent Championship at Dartford in mid June.

Despite her own personal belief, backed by her coach, that she was capable of faster and would therefore be

in the mix in the National Schools finals at Gateshead on the first weekend of July, Emily was overlooked for a place in the Kent team.

The day before the schools team boarded the coach to Gateshead, Emily's balanced and smooth performance at Watford was almost 4 seconds inside the quafilying time and would have put her 7th or 8th in any one of the last 5 years' finals, and, as high as 5th in the 2007 final

At Watford, Emily was among 27 athletes in a race won in 9mins 26 by 27 yr-old Faye Fullerton who is ranked in top 20 UK Seniors - Emily [left, 406] posted a pb of 10:14.43 which moves her up from 33rd to 26th in the UK rankings for u-20s, and, up to 8th on IEK All-time female list, fractions behind legendary Janice Moorekite who set a vet-35 record of 10:14.2 in 1994
