Twin brothers Ben Burton & Jacob Burton ended the 2010 season among Kent's top u-17 Octathletes, Ben eclipsing Michael Adlam's 1985 record, and Jacob not far behind but always always throwing Discus further. Nothing has changed in their transition to u-20 where they do Decathlon, 10 events over 2 days : in their first outing of 2011 Ben eclipsed another IEK record with Jacob still ahead in Discus, the 7th of the 10 events. Pictured in Kent Schools sky-blue, Ben (13) & Jacob (14) were selected to represent Kent Schools in the English Schools Regional Combined Events Championships in perfect conditions at Winchester Ben was 6th overall (3rd of 4 Kent competitors) holding 5th overall until his Sussex rival outgunned him in each of the last 3 events, Ben finishing 6th with 5084pts, eclipsing Chris Scott's 1991 record of 4660pts. Meanwhile, Jacob couldn't keep the sizzling pace of his first 2 events, ending Day 1 in 12th - he lost a bit more ground in the opening 3 events of Day 2, before out-throwing brother Ben in Discus and getting back to 12th on 4374pts after overtaking his Surrey rival with a superior 1500m |
