Folkestone Round 1

Record Turnout for Round 1 at Folkestone Road Relay

Tuesday 15th May 2012 saw the Invicta East Kent AC runners at the Folkestone seafront preparing to race against fellow clubs from the Kent area. It was a record turnout, with 2 senior men’s teams and a complete senior ladies team.

Not to be out done, the V40s also entered both a male and female team in the race. I am happy to report that the defending champions of the Senior Men and V40s ladies were able to open their title defences strongly, with both taking the first place in their categories. This has taken them straight into the lead after round 1. It’s all to play for going into the next round.

The overall ranking can be found on the results folder, but we can report that new recruit, Jack Goss, was the 2nd fastest on the night, keeping Mike Coleman firmly in his sights. Unfortunately due to a technicality of changing clubs was not eligible to race in the A team in this first round, but is now guaranteed a place in the next race. A special mention goes out to Peter Bowell, who after being kicked by a horse ran to complete the line-up for the V40M team. Lea Burnett also ran in her own separate team in an amazing time, after comments of hesitance to run. Well done ladies and gents.

Special thanks to Barry who was taking photos throughout the evening. After an unfortunate incident in Blean Woods the day before he was prevented from being able to run on the night. Reports from the fish and chips social are, “some of the chef’s could burn water” – although this was not the case for our food. Using the scientific racing fish and chips scale of 1-10, we put this chip shop at a strong 7.4. We look forward to finding out if Minnis Bay can beat this bench mark.

Well done and thanks to all that took part in the first round, and we hope to see you at the next one to continue this success story.
