England National Cross Country Championships, Sunderland – 23rd February 2013

Twelve IEK runners travelled up to Sunderland to represent the club in a gory mixture of snow and mud. All these positions are out of their age group in the whole of the UK.

Anna Weston, the only Invicta under-15, came 87th out of over 200. In the under-17 women, Alex Clay came an outstanding 3rd and was followed by Lilly Coward in 39th and Emily Mckane in 61st. Rebecca Weston was the only Invicta athlete in the under-20 women but also came a fantastic 3rd.

The under-17 men were the only complete IEK team and came 13th, following their 9th in the Southerns. James Pitcher led the way, and he, Jack Goss and William Stockwell were separated (in that order) by a mere 14 seconds, coming 73rd, 75th, and 85th. Barney Howard and Adam Mckenna completed a good turnout in 129th and 176th. By the time the senior men ran, the course was well churned up, and Donald Carter (in his trademark black hat) and Tim Corby came a very muddy 123rd and 207th in the gruelling 12k race, out of over 1,000 competitors.

Honourable mentions to training colleagues Emily Bond (Thanet, under-13 girls, 57th) and Jessica Carley (Ashford, under-13 girls, 59th).
