Rebecca 2nd in the UK

Rebecca’s 4th u-20 record takes her into 2nd UK top 20 list

Rebecca Weston (u20) confirmed within weeks that the IEK u-20 Female Mile record she set at Crystal Palace at the beginning of April was no fluke – in the u-20 League Match at Eltham at the end of April, Rebecca handsomely won the 1,500m by 100m in 4mins 41.8 which is the 5th fastest by an IEK u-20 Female and ranks to 16th at 1,500m on this year’s UK u-20

It also means Rebecca now has 4 of the top 10 fastest 1500 times in IEK's u20 Female history.

Despite this remarkable record at 1,500m, it is equally remarkable that Rebecca has not raced her favourite distance - 800m - since her 2mins 18.1 at Canterbury in the u-20 League on 24 July last year

To test her form at 800m, her race programme this summer took her to Watford within 3 days of her classy 1,500m at Eltham and boy, did she produce the goods…!

Not only did Rebecca race to within half a second of a Basildon rival who is selected for the 800m at the UK Games at the Olympic Stadium next week, but Rebecca also beat her own u-20 IEK 800m record of 2.14.77 set at a BMC Gold meeting at Watford in June 2011.

Rebecca’s performance at Watford also ranks her 6th for 800m in the 2012 UK u-20 Females

It also means that Rebecca now holds seven of the Club’s fastest u-20 female times for 800m – she has an unbroken tally of the fastest six times, while one of her first idols, Lily Martin (9th best time) has the distinction of being our first u-20 Female to break 2mins 20 on a memorable day she won the Kent Championship in 2006.
