Bobby 1st in the UK

Bobby is No.1 in UK rankings in FOUR events

Bobby Clay is a first-year u-17 and in the first month of this season has ventured onto the track only 6 times and in 6 different events, including 2 sprints.  In those few races Bobby has managed to top this year’s u-17 UK rankings in no fewer than four different middle-distance events.

Bobby’s first 3 outings were each IEK All-time Female best performances and were all recorded at Open meetings.

National u-20 League

Bobby’s 4th UK top ranking performance is the most recent, perhaps the most spectacular of the 4 and it was done in a League match for the combined u-20 team from IEK and Paddock Wood.

In an overcast race at Eltham, Bobby was the runaway winner of the Women's section in the 3,000m where Males and Females run together in one race – Bobby was 4th overall, ahead of training partner James Pitcher - also u-17 - who was 5th overall in 9mins 41.6. This makes James and Bobby the fastest two IEK members at 3,000m so far this season – the next two are Robert Whittaker and Peter Bowell, with 10.37.8 and 11.06.6.respectively

Bobby’s time puts her 2nd on IEK's female u17 all-time list, just behind Charlotte Dale’s 9.34.9 (done in this same u20 League in 2000) and just ahead of Beth Carter's best u17 time of 9.39.52 when she finished 2nd in UK School Games in 2008

Bobby's Eltham performance would have gained her Gold in last year's English Schools 3,000m for intermediates - Students Yrs 10 & 11 – which was won by Natalia Hackett in 9mins 40.81.  The most spectacular statistic yet is that Bobby’s Eltham run not only puts her currently 25th on the UK All-time u-17 list, she is also about 5 seconds faster than both Steph Twell and Paula Radcliffe in this age group are listed 41st and 43rd with 9.40.0 and 9.40.4 respectively

Although Bobby is making 800m her primary event this season, she tested her wide range by racing in this 3,000m at Eltham because it is the event she has been selected to do in the UK Games at the Olympic Stadium on 9 May
