SCVAC-Kent League-Div 2-Norman Park-Bromley-15/6/12

Invicta approached this 4th fixture of the Vets  League in 2nd position in their Division. So the possibility of promotion provided added incentive. Our five representatives all competed well with Mark Dawson outstanding with 4 victories in the 35+ category (although he is now 40+)-“A” 200m-28.0; HJ-1-20; SP-7-87 and Jav-28-11 + 4x440m relay-4-27.2 (3rd).In the same age group Martin Kelk (now 45+) placed 3rd in the “A” 1500m-4-41.9; 2nd in the “B” 200m-30.0 and also contested the relay. Richard Hudson (now a “super”  vet  55+) collected valuable points in the 35+ “B” 1500m-6-30.8 and in his own age group placed 3rd in the 200m-32.4 and 4th in the Jav-5-91 + the relay. Rob Whittaker was again able to run in his own 50+ age group (he often drops down to the 35+ when younger Invicta competitors are not available). He won the race by over 20secs-4-57.4 and also did the relay. John Gilbert (let`s not mention age!) came 3rd in the 50+ Shot-7-99 and in his own 60+ events won the Jav-22-99-and placed 4th in the 39.0. John very graciously declined an invitation from his teammates to contest the relay arguing that he could not be selfish and deprive them of the opportunity!!

The final team points-69-equal with Bromley Vets!! –and  match points-18-equal with Bromley Vets!!! (but we are now in 3rd position in the Division having less aggregate team points).

Our 5th match is at the Ashford Julie Rose Stadium next Monday 2nd July. This is almost a “home” fixture for us –so can we please have everyone who can possible make it there on the night to maintain our drive for promotion. A SPECIAL invitation to our women athletes (none of whom were present at Bromley).

Yours in Sport-

John Gilbert
