GB Edinburgh International

Weston and the Clay Sisters show great form for GB!

On the 5th January three Invicta East Kent Athletes (out of the Junior GB team of 6) took part in the Edinburgh International against a team from the USA and a team from the best runners in Europe.

It was an exciting race with Emelia Gorecta  from GB (the European silver medallist) taking an early lead, followed by Jessica Judd (GB) and then closely followed by our own Kent girls Rebecca Weston, from Canterbury, Alex and Bobby Clay from Wingham.

The race was 4KM long and nothing could call places for 3rd,,4th or 5th until the last 200m until Rebecca made a surge for the line and came in 3rd place just in front of the Clay sisters who came in 4th Alex and 5th Bobby. The Clay sisters are still both under 17's in an under 20's race.

This was Rebecca's and Bobby's first race in a GB Vest, Bobby being not only the youngest member of the GB team, just 15 in an under 20's race but also the youngest person in the whole race. The final places were Emelai Gorecka 1st (13.46), Jessica Judd 2nd (13.58), Rebecca Weston 3rd (14.01), Alex Clay 4th (14.04) and Bobby Clay 5th (14.04).

All three girls will be racing on the 20th January at the McCains Cross Country Challenge in Cardiff, where Alex will also be representing England, unfortunately Bobby, although racing is still too young to run in an England vest in this race.
