Invicta promoted in Youth Development League!!

Invicta, along with our combined team of Ashford, Thanet & Paddock Wood have finished first and are therefore to be promoted in the Youth Development League. Next season, Invicta’s U17 & U20 athletes will be competing in the Premier Division of this league.

A huge well done and thank you goes to Lauren Macey, Louise Evans, Barnaby Dougal, Hannah Scrivens and Korede Awe who competed at each match in this league and who’s consistently strong performances guided the team to their win.

At the last match on Sunday 23rd July, the strong winds meant no athlete’s times were their best and unfortunately we recorded no personal bests. However, all athletes kept consistent throughout the competition and we saw athletes break personal bests, as well as attempt new events they had never done before – last match, Barnaby Dougal took on the 400m hurdles having never hurdled before which Sunday’s match saw Lauren Macey compete in the discus for the first time.

This league also saw us produce some strong relay teams along with the other clubs. Throughout the competition, Korede remained in the same 4x100 team, with 3 Ashford athletes, which took 3rd place in Sunday’s match. Barney joined athletes from other clubs to finish in 3rd in the U17 4X400 while Hannah also guided the team to 3rd in the U17 4x100.

Lauren, Hannah, Louise and another athlete from Ashford joined forces to form a fantastic 4x300 team. Lauren got the team off to a flying start with Hannah holding on to the strong lead. The lead shortened slightly as the Ashford athlete passed the baton over to Louise, but Louise quickly pulled away from the other team in the race. The race as a whole was a pleasure to watch and the girls clocked a new personal best for the team.

A huge well done to everyone who took part in this league and thank you to those who helped officiate to gain extra points for the team. We are already looking forward to the new challenge next year!
