Kent Schools Championships

Many of the Invicta athletes followed their success from the Kent County Championships, at the Kent Schools on Saturday 10th June. Invicta’s youngsters took on athletes from across the county with the aim of adding more silverware to those they had won at the County Championships a few weeks ago.

Barney Dougal ran an impressive race to see himself qualify for the final of the 400m, where he just missed out on a medal, finishing in 5th place with an excellent time of 54.66.

Cole Gibbens qualified for the 800m final, later just missing out on the medals finishing in 4th place with a time of 2:06.71. Teammate Matthew Stonier, repeated his medal-winning ways from the County Championships, winning the 1500m with a time of 4:14.83 while Charlie Brisley bagged the top spot in the 3000m with a time of 9:11.96.

Douglas Noel took away both the bronze in the long jump (with a jump of 6.17) and the gold in the discus (to add to his gold from the County Championships) with a throw of 39.22. An excellent day all-round for Doug!

Among the girls, training partners Djamilla Nkereuwem and Hannah Scrivens continued their strong season and success at the County Championships with both qualifying for the finals of both the 100m and the 200m. Unfortunately they missed out on the medals in the 100m, with Djamilla finishing 6th and Hannah just behind her in 7th. In the 200m however, they finished 3rd and 4th. After a string of narrow-misses (missing out at the County Championships by mere hundredths of a second), Djamilla could finally take home the bronze medal and to add to that, a new personal best of 27.05.

The girls’ team mate, Louise Evans took on the 300m. With a new strong season’s best time behind her from the Youth Development League a few weeks ago, Louise got herself in a good position for English Schools qualifying. Louise won her heat easily, later taking the top spot in the 300m final with a new season’s best of 39.76.

In the 800m, Freya Lee finished in 6th place with a time of 2:34.37, just a couple of seconds shy of her personal best. While Alexandra Millard added gold to her silver from the County Championships in the 1500m with a time of 4.49.90.

Lauren Macey also added to the medal she had won at the County Championships with both a silver in the 80m hurdles and a bronze in the 300m hurdles.

In the younger age group, Henry-James Finch narrowly missed out on the final of the 300m, finishing 4th in his heat with a time of 40.27, a new personal best. A superb effort considering he has just started running this distance this season.

Oscar Parrick added to his County Champion medal, with a win in the 800m with a time of 2:04.45, a new personal best for Oscar and a time which enables him to qualify for the English Schools Championships. Sam Newson, finished 10th in the 1500m which was run as a time trial with a time of 4:44.28.

Imogen Davis finished 3rd in her 100m heat, unfortunately just missing out on the final with a time of 14.03. Imogen also took on the shot putt, finishing 10th with a throw of 7.34.

Maddison Sawyer took the bronze in the 800m with a time of 2:25.22 while Jildou Chappell finished in 18th in the 1500m with a time of 5:32.49.

Isabelle Harding produced an excellent 75m hurdles race, coming second in her heat with a time of 12.42, not far from her personal best. Unfortunately she struggled in the final, but with an excellent time behind her, she can be pleased with her performance. She made up for it by taking the bronze medal in the high jump with a jump of 1.50m, equalling her new personal best from the County Championships a few weeks ago.

In the youngest age group, Thomas Hutton finished 6th in the 800m with a time of 2:28, a new PB! Thomas also took on the long jump, finishing 13th with a jump of 3.60m, another PB!

An excellent day for Invicta all-round with some athletes qualifying for entry to the English Schools Championships on the 7th & 8th July, as well as bringing home more silverware to add to their collections. Well done everyone!!
