Invicta athletes shine in the heat at the Canterbury Half Marathon

Kent Grand Prix 5 Canterbury half marathon. In one of the toughest course in Kent on a scorching hot summers day Team Invicta managed to post yet again a really strong team hungry for success. Tom Purnell, the first Invicta man home, finished the 13.1 miles with a sprint that was noted by several at the race. His efforts got him 16th overall, 12th within the Kent grand prix runners, which should bump him up several positions in the grand prix standings, and posted himself and outstanding pb time of 1:26.39. Trevor Edgley once again showed that age is not a factor when it comes to being a force to be messed with by placing an outstanding 22nd, with a cracking time of 1:28.35 and was the first Male Vet 60 to cross the line. Adam Cowper Smith (42nd) was our first Male Vet 50 to cross the line in 1:33.18 which showed the heat and the tough hills at mile 10 were no challenge for him. Michael Conway (88th) in 1:39.11 showed real guts and determination throughout the 13.1miles and posted an amazing time yet again - a great result by him. Tim Kerr 157th accepted the challenge of the course and the weather and once again showed the true spirit of the club running for the shear enjoyment of it, fresh from 2 marathons, yet managed to place and exceptional time and position. Peter Bowell not on the results sheet was happy to finish as been out with a shoulder injury. Some great things predicted from him once his is back up to complete fitness. Vicky Talbot-Rosner battled the gruelling hill on her way back to post herself an amazing 6th place position among the women. With such an extraordinary placing, she should jump up in the grand prix standings. Despite the extreme conditions, she was able to post a time of 1:37.47, nearly a minute faster than her 2008 time. Janice Moorekite was the second Invicta lady, in 172nd overall. The race was a triumph for her, as she dropped a phenomenal 5 minutes off of her time from 2008. We can expect to see great things from her in the road races to come. Brianna Zoll was the last female in for invicta. Running her debut half marathon, she got a chance to take in some of the best scenery and post a standing time for future races. Despite the heat taking its toll on her, she was able to finish the race and hopefully set a mark for future improvement. Congratulations and well done to all runners who took part. Next race Harvel 5 mile : let's keep this up. Due to errors on the results sheet we hope Peterís results can be found and any errors corrected.
