Anna Alvarez silver & bronze at Southerns - Jaffer 200m bronze

15 young IEK competitors at the Southern Championships at Ashford appeared in 8 finals and produced 3 medals - two for throws and one for sprinting.

Recently departed coach and grandfather Steve Jones would have been proud that Anna Alvarez capturing bronze at javelin with her first ever throw over 30 metres) also bagged silver for Shot Putt with an u-15 National Grade 1 throw of 9.98m and was also 5th in the Hammer.

Another of Steve's proteges, Scarlett Mann (u-17) put in 2 season best performances - 12.67 (heats of 80m hurdles) then a National Grade 2 of 5.22m for 6th in the final of the long jump.

u-15 sprint phenomenon Jaffer Adams qualifyied for 100m final where he was 6th, then clinched bronze for 200m on Day 1, recording National grade 2 times in both heats and finals of BOTH events.

U-17s Annabel Carter (43.98) and Megan Eeles (44.01) both missed qualifiying for the 300m final by a whisker, while Kegan Goldsack Marsh (24.05) shaved 3 hundredths off his 200m best this season. Sam Hudson reached the u-17 Men's semi-final of a particularly talented 800m field, where, in separate heats, Ben & Jacob Burton were within 5 hundredths of each other. Beth Burnett ran bravely in her 800m heat, while Rebecca Weston had to watch her 800m final from the stadium physio bed as rivals plundered medals in times Rebecca has bettered all season so far.

Jake Rogers, Chris Thomas and Luke Dawson all ran 1500m heats in torrential rain, while Kieran Reilly produced the highest IEK individual track standard at these championships, first a National Grade 2 in the heats and then, in the final, producing his 3rd Grade 1 time this season to finish 6th in a fine, tactical 1500m.
