Chris Holmes and Jason Prickett top IEK rankings at Watford Open

Chilly and windy conditions meant competitors at Watford's 2nd Open this year had to focus more on racing each other than posting fast times for their own sake, and the reward for our lone 3,000m athlete and our five 1500m runners was fast times. The opening 1500m race saw Anna Weston sprint from 6th off the last bend into 3rd in a blanket finish of 5 athletes all within 1 second - in the same race, Molly Dawson put in the sprint finish of the day as she determinedly held off the late challenge of a male rival from Oxted. In race 3, Ali Noel felt the effects of heavy school activity earlier in the day while, in race 4, Chris Thomas posted a pb of 4mins 30 despite running out of steam following heavy activities elsewhere in the previous 4-5 days. Jason Prickett ignored the time-conscious athletes around him and, in making sure he beat former IEK member James Hogg, Jason stormed across the line in 4min 03, his best by some 4 seconds. After waiting for eight 800m races to finish, Chris Holmes held off the late challenge of a rival from Windsor Slough & Eton to become the first IEK member for several seasons to dip uner 9 mins in the 3,000m For results click underlined text...Watford Opens 2010
