Gold for Rhiannon, Ellen, Max, John Gilbert & Martin Kelk - 24 IEK finalists

Kent Track & Field Championships 2010 were brought to a close at Erith (Bexley) in mid-September amid sterling performances by 15 athletes dispelling the myth that IEK specialises only in middle and long distance running - 8 u-13s collected 9 medals from 16 finalists,[img:730r] no fewer than 5 for field events. Max Farnell [RIGHT] won IEK's first Kent Javelin gold since the halcyon days of Colin Mackenzie in the 1970s & 80s. Jacob Burton took u-17 Octathlon bronze - Martin Kelk (vet40) netted 2 track medals, John Gilbert (vet65) got 4 field medals, and a new star emerged among our vet-35 women in the shape of club Treasurer Claire Gilbert who took 2 bronze medals in her first ever county appearance. The overall total was 11 field medals from 15 finalists, compared to 6 track medals from 9 finalists. Rhiannon Wallwork came away with 5 medals in the two-day competition, winning 75m, 150m and Long jump, and silver for Shot & Discus - John Gilbert won 4 vet-65 gold (Shot Discus Javelin and Hammer) Lydia Gallyer Barnett (u13) made 4 finals taking Javelin silver Ellen Whitehead got her tactics right to outsprint her M&M rival for 800m gold to add to 1200m bronze the day before. Martin Kelk was pipped for 800m gold by 3/100ths but was in imperious form 24 hours later to win county 1500m gold. ...For results click underlined text ......[doc:726] ......[doc:727] ......[doc:728] ......[doc:729]
