XC 2011 - SE Schools Intercounties - Reading

  • Luke Dawson and Emily Hosker Thornhill are 2nd Kent finishers
  • Pre-selected Junior Girls (Bobby and Anna) take a well-earned rest

14 IEK selected for Regional race

A total of 14 IEK athletes (9 girls + 5 boys) were selected for this Schools InterCounty fixture whose results are used in conjunction with the County event at Swanley to select the team of 8 to represent Kent at the National English Schools Championships at Nottingham on 19 March

Bobby Clay and Anna Weston (both Junior Girls) were 1st and 3rd at the county race in Swanley so were pre-selected for Nottingham - they rested for this match since it is the 4th in an unbroken sequence of 6 races in 6 weekends.

Luke Dawson (also pre-selected for his super 3rd at Swanley) raced to 13th Inter Boy at Reading and 2nd Kent scorer, behind race winner Charlie Joslin Allen who had missed the Swanley event.

Jake Rogers (27) continued his road back to fitness after prolonged illness and, with 2 pre-selected athletes giving this one a miss, Jake made a good claim for a place in the 8-man Kent team finishing 6 Kent boy home.

Emily Hosker Thornhill, 15th overall and 2nd Kent Senior Girl more than made up for the torrid day when she pulled out at Swanley - Beth Burnett (also a casualty at Swanley) 59th of 63 Senior Girls at Reading

Ellie Hume, 4th at Swanley was 18th at Reading well ahead of the Ashford girl (26) who had pipped her at Swanley - Alex Clay (50) is with an outside chance of selection, she was 7th Kent girl at Reading with 2 pre-selected athletes giving this one a miss.

In the Senior Boys, Kieran Reilly (17) made sure of selection for Nottingham by finishing as Kent's 3rd man, with all 3 pre-selected Tonbridge athletes taking a rest
