31 IEK at Kent Schools Cross-country at Swanley

Barney Howard (in the green of Canterbury District Schools) stole the show when he improved from 25th last year to 5th this year in the Junior Boys at Swanley - James Pitcher was 14th. Performances of the day came from 2 Junior Girls - Amy Old improved to 5th from 15th last year and Rosie Maguire (73rd) who completed her first ever cross-country run at this level. There's no stopping Bobby Clay's winning streak, majestically winning the Junior Girls after her 4th place at Wilmington a year ago. Anna Weston took bronze in her first year as a Junior. The talking point of the day was the presence of no fewer than five (5) Red Sparrows in the top 10 - the 6th Red Sparrow was Olivia Tomlin (31) in her first race after a 3 month absence wirh an elbow broken doing indoor sports at school. Luke Dawson (Thanet Schools) improved to 3rd from last year's 16th in Inter Boys and booked a firm place in the Kent Schools team to contest English Schools in March. Luke led home 4 other IEK boys - 3 for Canterbury Schools Eddie Burton (18) Adam McKenna (36) Nolan Stuart (48) with Jack Smith (38) representing Dover & Sandwich Schools Kieran Reilly was 4th Senior Boy after his 7th a year ago as an Inter while Poppy Lewis Webster (9th) was our best finisher in the Senior Girls in her first ever Kent Schools. Multi-eventers Lauren Fielder and Rhiannon Wallwork (both Juniors) plus Annabel Knight (Year 7) all turned out for their District Team |
