IEK Open 11th April 2012

Great atmosphere at first IEK Open of the summer

Unlike Watford Open Meetings where races are scheduled to get faster and faster, our Open reverses the programme, so the fastest race is first.

In Race 1 of 600m Tim Corby was 2nd as he set out on phase 1 of an evening’s double 600m + 1,000m – Tim won the longer race in style, after winding up the pace at halfway

Two under-17 Men – Ben Hall and Adam McKenna – used the same double programme to simulate heat + final of championship racing. In 600m, Adam was 5th in Race 1, while Ben was a clear winner of Race 2 - they came together in the longer run where Adam was 4th and Ben was 7th

Three training partners – Jon Ness, Lilly Coward and Bobby Clay - opted for the 600m-300m double: Jon Ness (5th) Bobby (3rd), while Lilly Coward had a scintillating finish in 8th

This trio contested 300m at 8pm in cold wintry evening wind – Lilly 3rd in Race 1 and Jon getting the better of Bobby in the final race of the evening

In Race 2 of the 600m, newcomer Joe Whitby ran sensibly in his first ever track race, coming up against training partners Ellen Whitehead (2nd) Laura Parrish - a first year u-13 - who was 4th with Maddy Young 6th

Under-11 ace, Oliver Weston was a convincing winner of Race 3, chased all the way by two Thanet AC runners

Barney Howard (u-17) was 3rd in Race 1 of the 600m after putting in an impressive 200m speed stint – Anna Calzada and Kane Clay, both u-13, took time out of middle-distance to race impressively in 100m.

Bradley Wake-Smith also performed strongly managing an 11m Shot Putt. This distance places him 56th in the UK rankings.
