Dear Members,

The Committee would like to put to everyone’s attention the lack of volunteers at events recently. We appreciate that commitments at work and at home make people’s spare time more sparse and valuable than ever before, but for any sports club or society to function, it relies on the help of volunteers, so that the members can get the very best of the facilities and opportunities available to them.

As already stated, we know that time is an incredibly precious commodity to people, so we feel we need to give members the incentives to help us and give up that time. Henceforth, a proposition for a two tier membership fee is being pushed. Membership renewal is up, as usual, in April next year,  and to qualify for the concessionary, or lower rate, then members/parents will be expected to complete ten hours of voluntary assistance in that period.

Examples of jobs which would qualify towards this would be…

  • Helping to run the clubroom tuck-shop on training nights
  • Maintaining notice boards in the Clubroom
  • Helping keep the equipment store room tidy
  • Helping on training nights and at open meetings with jobs such as raking the sandpits
  • Marshalling at a Road Race we organize (eg Canterbury 10, Canterbury Half-Marathon, Les Golding 10K)
  • Helping with refreshments at a Road Race we organize
  • Any other jobs at a Race
  • Helping at the Awards Evening
  • Helping at other social events

By our calculations, we guess that ten hours equates to about three days of the year to volunteer. If everyone chips in with this quota, then we will not be lacking for any sort of manpower around the club.

Yours Sincerely

The Management Committee
