Holly and Emily leading Kent Girls in Combined Events Champs

Holly Fielder (U17W) and Emily Higham (U15G) both represented Kent Schools in the annual London and Kent Schools’ Combined Events Champs on Thursday 21 May.

Emily finished the top Kent scorer in the U15 competition and finished second overall with a new Pentathlon personal best score of 2239 points. She started off in the 75m Hurdles with the fastest time and a new personal best of 13.4secs (530 points). She then had a solid high jump with 1.33m (439 points) and had the second best shot put with 8.08m (405 points). Emily then finished third overall in the long jump with 4.24m (364 point). In the final event, the 800m, she then ran 2mins 46.5secs (501 points). She finished just behind the overall winner, Ore Adamson (London Schools) on 2372 points, but more crucially just ahead of third place Lauren Farley (Kent Schools) on 2211 points.

Holly, likewise, finished the top Kent scorer in the U17 competition and finished second overall with 2561 points. In this competition the athletes were doing five of the Heptathlon events (missing out the shot put and high jump). Holly had a poor start for her in the 80m Hurdles with a time of 14.4secs (530 points). She then recovered from this and ran the fastest 200m in 27.6secs (643 points). In the long jump, however, she did not really overcome the blustery conditions and jumped a modest 4.56m (443 points), although it was the longest in her competition. In the javelin, a new event for Holly, she threw a creditable 16.24m (219 points). In the final event, the 800m, Holly ran a season’s best of 2mins 27.4secs (726 points). This was not quite fast enough to finish first overall and was just 31 points behind the eventual winner, Tara Kelly (London Schools) on 2592 points.

Well done to both girls.
